Q: about the "pros you don't like" thread...
« on: December 24, 2005, 01:19:48 PM »
I try to watch the PBA whenever I'm not working, but apparently I missed some vital happenings. Why do some people dislike Dave Traber and Mike Scroggins? I've never heard anything pro or con on either guy until reading this board. Just curious as to what has happened...

People dislike Scroggins because he's a good scapegoat, people dislike Traber because he's a one dimensional player, imo, neither of these are valid reason to dislike either

Well Chris Barnes has missed a bunch of weeks with a back injury this year.

I mean ...not even bowled.

Traber can be described in 2 words....sore loser.  What did him in, was a tournament a couple years ago I guess where some guy beat him at a PBA Regional event.  Memory serves me correctly, Traber went public in an interview for a local paper I believe and actually said they guy was lucky and I want to say that he went as far as saying that the guy did not deserve to win amongst other things.  There are things that as a professional, you shouln't do.  You can do 10 awesome things that will get you praise.  But, when you screw up one time, it tarnishes everything.

Just like the words of Mike Scroogins using the term "leauge bowler". You know, i think that came back to bite him in the rear because the last 2 times hes been on TV hes looked ALOT like a "leauge bowler". Scroogings just might get more respect if he gave leauge bowlers more respect. You cant tell any one of us that hes never bowled leauge in his life. To make that comment, makes no sense. I for 1 will never forgive him on that comment. Kinda regret having his Autograpgh.

A lot of peoples disdain comes from how the bowler is perceived on tv, what they heard from friends or just what they've observed in person.  I think its kinda funny to have posts about who you like and dislike personally, but opinion is opinion too.

In terms of styles, I don't like Mike Scroggins and Rick Lawerence.  It is kinda fun to see Scroggins struggle after his "threw that one like a league bowler" quickly followed by "Cant throw it better than that!"

Im terms of personality I don't care for Ryan Schaefer.  Others have reported good things about him, but I just don't care for him.  Well before the Kiss-My-@ss statement.  I really disagree with how the PBA was playing up his diabetes angle.  1)  to garner sympathy to quell the anti-Schafer crowd and 2) to explain his "emotional outbursts"  That's just lame PR.

Topping my list of dislikes is Randy Pedersen.  Love him as a commentator, strongly dislike him as a competitor.  Blowing up BV style can happen under pressure.  Blaming others for failure is classless and arrogance.  Taking a swipe at the guy who beat you, when YOU failed to perform, on a show a week or two later is just asinine.

They are no different than any other cross section of people you don't really know. Tempers as well as personality run a random gambit.I have gone and met many many pro's over the years and for the most part all were nice the problem is that sometimes people approach them at inopportune times or when they have had a bad time of it. Admit it, many of us tend to be the same way and we are bowling for peanuts not livelihood. Funny some of the most liked pro's from the other thread I have witnessed have the biggest temper tantrums. Fun to watch but i can't hold it against them. Only one time I can remember that I would have and should have clocked someone. It was Marshall Holman at either the Tums classic or the Rochester Open. He was watching the "A" squad as he was bowling "B" Some 8-10 year old came up with a pin and a pen and asked for an autograph. Marshall ripped this kid up instead of just saying he was working or something. This kid looked like a kicked puppy dog. If i could have made my way across the full bleachers fast enough it would have been worth the night in jail. We did razz him as he missed the cut though and although childish it felt deserving for his poor behavior. As far as style making you dislike them thats tends to be a bit shallow. Many different styles and to me whatever wins is the correct one. Funny though most of the ragging comes on guys who throw straight. (oh yeah, lefty too, suprise! suprise!)

All I know is Scroggins probably hates Dave, since many people would say that Traber "throws it like a league bowler".

I dont like Pedersen also.  One telecast i was watching he started ranting about someone in the stands moving or something and then starting saying "your real classy man i saw you ...you up there thanks alot your a class act"

I mean i could understand cameras, silence pressure.  But if pedersen was a class act, maybe a staredown would of been plenty.  Just my thoughts.

Peterson's a vocal guy. I met him and he was great. He also seems to get along amazingly well with most competitors, especially the veterans.

I tried to talk to Schaefer and he either didn't hear me in an empty room or was "big timing" me. Looks like an a-hole on TV and in person; just like Chris Warren looked like a weasely little jerk.

Some of the guys on here were actually cutting him down and making fun of the way Scroggins looks absolutely no class on their part and they couln't beat him on a bowling alley either

Schaefer can bowl, but he still appears to be an a-hole. I'm fat, so what. I'm not a jerk to people.
