? about the show

What was the green/yellow ball Oatman used on the right lane?

Also, last week DeVaney was using a ball that had the pin location inches higher than his fingers, why use a layout like that?

Oatman was using a Big Blue Pearl on the show, I believe he may have used a Blue Vibe when he missed the 6 pin.

Using a high pin layout like that allows high rev players to use some of the aggressive coverstock/asymmetric equipment out there today.  Think of the Tommy Jones trick layout that everyone was obsessing about months ago.

That layout basically gets the ball to push further down the lane without burning up energy as early as a pin below the fingers layout on the same ball could.

I'm gonna guess It was Raw Toxic, but a Hammer head out there should know for sure.

The consensus on the chat was a Big Blue Pearl.  Much brighter than PA's three years ago at the Masters.

The pin height affects the length and with Devaney's rev rate, he probably wanted something that pushed down the lane a little without having to use (more) polish that could make it squirty.

My guess with Devaney's lay out is due to how it was laid out. guessing that jim tomek laid it out for him using the dual angle technique and the pin can fall into that potion with some lay outs. and pin height does not dictate length, drilling angle does (first angle in dal).

Yes it was a BBP and it was a blue vibe that he missed that single pin with.  No clue why he threw that at it with that ball since in practice he had hardly thrown it after warm up.

Why would they call a ball Big Blue Pearl but make it Green/Yellow?

I recognized it as a BBP right after thinking it was an off color Toxic.  Someone that has bowled with or seen Billy at Regionals verified that it is a BBP blem, perhaps explaining the odd coloration.

Being a blem explains it! LOL.

That was a heck of a nice blem. I love the ugly colored bowling balls (Track Robo Rule, Mo LevRG, etc. etc.).

I have a BBP still and mine is no where near that bright. I almost thought it was one of the Storm Tropicals LOL.

I watched the telecast on a 32"  LCD which usually is true to color, but i guess it was wrong. To me it looked like Oatman was throwing a Vicious, there was no doubt at that time that it was not.

Anyway i found the proof that it is indeed a Big Blue Pearl, and oddly enough this is not a color blem as far as i can tell.

And right there it says "X-out" which is how Hammer marks blems.  The pin looks like a normal length, so it was a color blem

Evidently PRO's are allowed to use 'X-OUT' balls! Sounds strange to me!
