Title: after 1 game of the 14 game qualifying...
Post by: hotwire13 on January 13, 2005, 03:55:57 AM
15 players shot 260 or better.

you have to scroll down aways to get to anything less than 240, and even the amateur shot 297.

i would say the scores are just a tad high...thoughts?

yep...pattern E is as close to a THS as the pba will see, but after seeing the guys struggle to shoot 215 on a tv pair they practiced on for 30 minutes, i dont mind seeing big names shoot big scores on sunday.  although i wouldnt mind seeing the shot tweaked a little.

He's sucking it up now, his average is down to 289.  869 not a bad start.  They must be pretty walled up to have 5 800s the first three plus a ton of 750+

He faltered in the 5th game. "only" shot 244. Oops.
He's now "only" 403 over for 5.

I read somewhere where that house is new (about 2-3 months old)  I wonder if the lanes being new have anything to do with the shot and pin carry??

Just a thought..

I would think that have a lane surface would lend itself to higher scores.  When I was in Reno last year and talked with the people in the know, they said part of the problem there was the lane surface was trash.

Mr. Bobby Stives still kicking butt but now only up by a pin to patrick allen.  I am not a huge fan of allen.  I would like to see Wes Mallot make the show as I have never seen him bowl before.  I would also like to see 3 other people we haven't seen on there this year.

It's gotta suck to average 230 and still not be in the top 32...

Just to give you a little insight from El Paso, the center is new and it is pretty awesome. They built this place with a tour stop in mind. One of the finest centers that i have seen in the country. As far as the lane surface goes, it is a new Qubica synthetic surface. It is fairly similar to AMF HPL9000 so it is pretty nice. Pin carry is definitely above average to say the least. As far as the pattern goes, everybody knows that pattern E is the highest scoring pattern on tour. The pattern was created to give the fans and viewers at home a look at higher scores and to create more excitement. It may not be what everybody wants to see, but nobody wants to pay to watch the "best in the world" bowl 180s-200s either. It is a double edge sword. The surface really dictates how high scoring all of the patterns are. We have seen pattern E take under to cash in some regionals on very un-friendly surfaces. It just so happens that this week we are in a high scoring environment and it is really showing.

I just want to see how many 1 frame roll-offs there will be after a 300-300 tie. Haha, the 1 frame might become 9257484785 after 9257484785 X's.....
