The good and the bad now that WSOB is over...
« on: December 27, 2010, 11:49:47 AM »
Good -- Lots of talented people still treating this tour as a career and living the dream. Here's hoping the prize funds rise to a level that eventually justifies their gambit.

Bad -- Tape-delayed telecasts.

Good -- Watching Eugene McCune win again. I realize opinions vary on McCune's personality, but I find him to be one of the two or three most interesting bowlers to watch bowl. Not that many people can both slow-hook a lane like he can and then turn it up to lightspeed and point it off the corner. I would have loved to see him in the finals of the Shark Championship after the head oil disappeared and left the rest of the finalists looking like THBs trying to bowl on PBAX.

Bad -- Having to avoid this forum for two months because of the handful of folks who can't understand the concept of spoilers.

Good -- Palermaa finally winning on tour.

Bad -- Another mental misstep for Barnes on a televised final.

Good -- Gu and his pinky finger grip (which I also use) and RoboCop wrist brace climbing the ladder for a win. Given his age and pedestrian reputation back home, that might have been the biggest upset on a TV show in decades. Certainly the biggest since Mike Mineman's win.

Bad -- Those of you in the thread on bowlers' spouses/partners that think Bill O'Neill's wife is plain. Good lord, guys. Bill's a lucky man...

Good -- Getting a list of a bowler's arsenal along with some frank discussion of said equipment. Ball nerds have been asking for this for years.

Bad -- The fact that whoever assigned the "hook ratings" either didn't have a clue on some of the balls and/or the ESPN crew didn't go into enough detail about why some identical balls were rated differently for different telecasts (surface/drilling/etc.).

Good -- Better explanations of the oil patterns during "Know The Wood."

Bad -- Crowds that numbered well into the dozens. Don't know whether the venue sucked, or whether no one else was interested in attending, but those were ridiculously small crowds.

Good -- The damned thing is over.

The bad watching Parker Bohn with that stupid look on his face in the commercial over and over.

Bad:  replacing the risers with a crowd on them behind the bowlers approach area with a giant mural of WSOB and sponsors.

As for Bill O's wife.  She's a cutie, but do they really need to show her before and after every commercial break and even go as far as interviewing her?  I really couldn't care less about who Bill O'Neill is married to.

Bill O'neill's wife is slammin'. I would do things that I cannot mention on this forum to her.

Gu is the man. I'm glad he pretty much destroyed everyone on that show. He was consistently throwing good shots, with the exception of one, maybe two crossovers.

Barnes should just stop trying to make television. I think after Kulick spanked him at TOC last year, he has not been the same.

I am unsure of the event list for the PBA this year, but are they doing the plastic ball championship again?

Also, PBA should see if they can create more animal patterns. I'm sure they can make at least one or two new patterns just to extend the season and provide a new challenge to PBA members. Just an idea.

I'm in the process of trying to find out where I fit in the bowling world. I do not know my tech specs of my game, but it's all a learning process.

That would be because they filmed all the finals in 2 days.  They filmed 3 each back to back to back with some break time in between for setup, stripping, oiling, ect.., IIRC.

Well the obvious which 99.9% of us fans hate....tape delay!

The good news? The fact that it is a "world" tournament and 1 of the bowlers is not even on the tour and won and 2 of the bowlers that won are also not on the exempt tour and are not from the United States.

Ok news?I don't like McCune but you have to admit you like to watch him. You have to give praise to the fact he broke the qualifying record by far and no one may ever beat it. I wanted Duke to win but it was not his tournament to win.

Good news? Bill O'Neill coming out for 4 games killing everyone. That was a treat to watch!

Bad news? Chris Barnes. Epic fail on tv. Reminded me of others on my last PBA X league and myself trying to do something the lane condition was not going to allow. When  he actually played the shot like everyone else did he did better but I can't help to think what he was thinking.

Good news? Two two handed bowlers going at it in a telecast! It was incredible!

Bad news? No Walter Ray Williams Jr or Pete Weber making a show.

Good news? Showing the players equipment with hook ratings and NO Brunswick only sponsership like 10 years ago (what's in the bag). Something every fan has been telling the PBA to do!
