Thanks for the info, my local house is kind enough to put the pba patterns out for practice for non-league bowlers. My favorite pattern is the Chameleon, but my ball just skated (from where I'm used to playing it). But now that I know it's an extra four feet, everything makes sense.
I've bowled on the newer animal patterns: wolf, plays a lot like on tv, just make sure you use a ball that doesn't burn up to much or throw hard. I also bowled on the badger at 52 ft, I know the pros play it from deep inside, but my ball (300 rev rate) would just go straight, I played it from the outside just pointing it in. Only pattern I would consider bringing sanded stuff to try and break down the shot.
