Arse whipped

Ok, I've seen some pretty brutal losses in PBA history - Del Ballard's gutter ball, for example.  Well, for those of you who care, there were a couple of painful endings for the guys in the round of 32 today:
quote:

Nathan Bohr, bowling against Amleto in game 7, has a chance to force his opponent to punch out in the 10th to win by a stick.  Instead, he chucks the ball in the drink and carries only 9 on the spare attempt.  Amleto punches out anyway and moves to the round of 16.

Eugene McCune was working on a 5-bagger in game 6 before throwing a 7 count and missing the spare attempt.  He lost by a mere 4 sticks to Brad Angelo simultaneously ending his week.

Mike Devaney posted 3 open frames and only 4 strikes (1 double) in his game 5 loss to Tim Criss.  The 168 game he fired as a result was the last in his 4-1 loss.

Bill O'Neill started his round with a miserable 142 game against Tony Reyes.  O'Neill posted only 3 strikes (1 double) that were completely offset by 5 open frames, including opens in the 9th and 10th.

David Traber struck only twice in his 5th and final game against the Big Finn.  An open frame in the 7th did him no favors as he went down in flaming wreckage.

Chris Barnes had Blaise Bedolla's number - until the 6th frame of game 7.  Barnes looked to capitalize on a Bedolla open in the 5th, but opened in the 6th himself.  With new life breathed into his game, Bedolla posted a spare in the 6th before running 3 strikes into the 10th.  Barnes handed Bedolla the victory when he again opened in the foundation 9th frame, ending his long-awaited comeback (for this week, anyway).

Tommy Jones did himself in with a pair of open frames and only 4 strikes (1 double) in his game 7 loss to Jim Tomek.  Jones posted his 2nd 170's game of the round with a 176.

Chris "High-Five" Collins saw DJ Archer shoot 161-156-166-156 for a whopping 639 for 4 games (a 159.75 average).  This is arguably the most comprehesive arse-whipping I have seen in the modern PBA format.

On a happier note, Joe Ciccone should have had a toe-tag put on himself and been looking for door after his game 5 showing against Brian Kretzer.  Ciccone posted a painful 145 that included only 3 strikes, none of them consecutive, and 4 open frames.  However, ever the competitor, Ciccone stepped it up in game 6 and handed his opponent his arse with a 9-strike, 2-spare 269 to end Bad-Boy Kretzer's week.

Hmmm, maybe I missed my calling as a bowling writer....
