Why the heck is Jones throwing that Magic Action? He hasn't thrown a single good shot with it (that we've seen on TV anyway) but with the Mission he never missed the pocket...

I wonder what TJ saw with the Magic Action during practice. But he's back to teh Mission and it looks a bit easier down lane.

No seriously...you're an idiot for posting this. TJ is well known as the best on tour with managing his ball reaction. He saw something he didn't like down the lane towards the end of the first set. He ended the game with a couple of wrap tens and a borderline 8/10. He switched to try and create a better angle through the pins. He knew shooting 190 with a bunch of flat 10s wasn't going to beat Billy O.

I'm sure you would have just moved left and sawed on it more right? After all the adjustments for league are the same as what they see right?

The Magic series may be one of the worst lines Ebonite has ever had but aside from that I think O'Neill did something to his shot in practice. Unfortunately until the Mission came along Ebonite's ball choices suck right now. Tommy should try to find older NIB Ebonite balls on eBay.

Why is he an idiot for posting it? He is Monday Morning quarterbacking it sure but it ended up being the wrong move and he just questioned the move because it didn't work.

Had it worked he or others would have been on here saying great ball change.

Would that make them a genius?

I've bowled on a flat pattern before, but I was curious why TJ didn't move deeper inside instead of attempting to stay on the same line and get there with some loft? Maybe a Mission with the pin up?

No it wouldn't have made any difference had his ball choice worked. We have absolutely NO idea what they are bowling on. Even those of us that have bowled on that pattern...in that tournament....have no clue what he saw. During the week that move was probably golden, but on the show the transition was different.

I just get tired of people that have no clue what they are talking about coming on here and talking about how much they would have done differently and better. It's the same as the guys taht run their mouths about Barnes getting run over on TV.

I think the volume used was MUCH higher than in the past. I bowled the Open in 2006 and the volume was lower. The only moves you made were to the left and to balls that cleared the head cleaner and cleaner. That was the year PDW one his 4th. I crossed with him during the week and he was never right of 4th arrow.

This year with the volume being higher I think they were not able to make the same sort of moves. You saw his fill shot of the first game completely squirt and go 2/8/10. I think the carrydown was a factor where in the past few years the only thing that mattered was getting the ball through the heads cleaner and cleaner.

IMO....TJ should have moved inside a little bit. With all the practice before the telecast and all the practice between matches, it looked like the track area went away from him and therefore so did his carry at the end of Match 1. I think the Magic Touch was the right ball choice but he didnt move when he changed. The ball was cleaner through the heads so when he threw it in a good spot, the ball was too much on the back to stay right of the head pin and when he tried to "let it loose" and give it some room, there was no recovery right. He started with the Mission, pin down, playing 15 at the arrows out to 9-10. When he switched to the Magic Action, he should have moved to around 18-19 at the arrows and his breakpoint in a similar spot (second range finder/10th board). TJ will be back, though. It was AWESOME to see him on tv again.

really? an idiot for just questioning a move? it sure made him look like a genius going from 245 to 152 when i didn''t see him move one bit. i''m not saying he is dumb for doing it i was simply asking WHY. And I would have never posted anything if he made the ball change and it worked. I don''t usually post about PBA but to see someone hit the pocket so well then to switch balls next game after a fill ball leaving 2-8-10 just struck me as kind of odd.
