BARNES BABY!!!!
« on: February 20, 2005, 11:05:46 AM »
Chris Barnes the winner and the best bowler in the world!!! He has to be the best because he was the number 1 bowler this week on the toughest condition in years!! he kicked the door in and threw the monkey off his back!!!! Oh and by the way he's the fastest bowler in PBA History to win a million bucks. Now instead of calling him a choke artist you can all call him US OPEN CHAMPION!!! Has a nice ring to it.

He did choke.  He just managed to survive the one choke he suffered.

He did manage to redeem himself with that 1st strike in the 10th.  Props to Barnes.  He won a major on the toughest pattern in bowling.  And he was throwing Columbia - thank you very much.

You guys can say what you want about Barnes and it seems like some like him and some don't...but he was the only one that had the class and dignity to pay tribute to Dick Weber both in his Entrance at the beginning and also at the end of the show when he had won.  I did not hear WRW, Mika or PA say a thing about the passing of probably the greatest ambassador for the sport of bowling.  Chris did and I think that says something about his character.

You bring up a good point Midnight and I've heard a few guys mention it on this Forum. Chris did show alot of class my mentioning Dick Weber a few times while the other guys didn't bother too.

I don't know Chris Barnes other than what I see on TV so I cannot say anything to what the others who have met him in person say or their experience but I do know that his comments on Sunday about Dick Weber showed something about his character and his personality.  I'm sure to the Weber family it meant a lot that Chris paid tribute to him twice.

Man, I love when Mika loses.  Especially to someone whose daily list of "things to do" reads like:

1)  Watch "Life Goes On".
2)  Emulate haircut and hygiene of star.

I love Patrick Allen as a bowler, but Chris Barnes had the wherewithall to shake off the demons of US Open open frames past and present and throw a clutch strike in the 10th to wrap it up.  Not to mention paying tribute twice to the most consummate professional ever to step foot on a bowling lane.

My grandfather idolized Dick Weber and I had the privilege of shaking Weber's hand when I was 7 years old (am 32 now).  He even signed the marble base of the cheesiest bowling trophy (just a stupid looking bowler on a base with my name on it) I owned.  But that trophy meant the most to me and I still remember the meeting with that legend.

a choker with a US Open Title and the a lot of money.  I hope I could choke like that too...

Everyone that bowled had some good luck and some bad luck.  You think Mika not putting PA away twice wasn't lucky for PA?  Even PA knew it.  If saying how much Dick Weber meant to him and to bowling is running off at the mouth...you need to grow up.  That was called R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!!!

Anyone who is still calling Barnes a choker is an IDIOT and knows nothing about Bowling.

The answer is simple.

PA just lost his ball reaction.

Barnes got "LUCKY" and squeak a victory.

It has nothing to do with Dick Weber.

Barnes should not even be considered in the same "class" as DW.

Barnes was just running off at the mouth.

He is a choker and will always be a choker.

I totally agree with Greg T. Barnes still almost gave it away late in the match. He did not beat his oponent, his openent lost to himself. I cannot stand Barnes, when I first met him, he was a total jacka*s. But I do realize that he is a great bowler, but a major squeezer. I do not think the monkey is off his back, I did not see PA go brooklyn or real high as many times as Barnes did. One day I do think Barnes will get over it though, and be a superstar, but till then keep squeezin away!

A guy I bowl league with has met Barnes in person.  He bowled on the same pair as he did at a local Pro-Am, and he saw Barnes randomly throughout the day at the bowling center.  Forget the chip on the shoulder, more like boulder on the shoulder.  WOuldn't hardly give anyone the time of day.

Not that I'm in his shoes, and I probably never will be.... BUT, I'd have a LITTLE humility around people that knew who I was because of the sport I excelled in...

He does seem pretty aloof. I only saw him from a short distance away, I didn't meet him.
