Barnes Comments on Doubles Show
« on: February 07, 2008, 09:10:24 AM »
I thought Chris Barnes' comment about doing well throughout the week and needing some help on Sundays was pretty 'Big' on his part.  I think he realizes his struggles and I feel if he can overcome them will absolutely Dominate the Tour.  As I see it, if he continues making shows the way he is, I think he will win 2-3 titles this year and more than likely POY.

Just my 2 cents

I agree....he is talented and has no weaknesses on the lanes.  He can play the gutter to the other gutter.

I posted this because of a few reasons:

1.  People on the this site have bashed Barnes about being an A@@, well go to some regionals and see just how many A@@es there are in the PBA.  I bowled a stop last year and Billy Oatman and Eugene McCuen(sp) were there.  Barnes looks like the Pope next to these two.

2.  No one wins all the time - he keeps making more shows than anyone else,
period.  The guy is crazy talented.

I like Barnes to me he seems like a natural.  Other Pete Weber he probably has the next best release and swing of anyone on tour.  He is amazing of how he can play so many angles on so many different patterns.  I was wondering though why is he struggling so much this year? Is it his timing, release or is more mental this year?  Sometimes I wonder if he lets his mind get in the way of his bowling.

I was fortunate enough to be able to bowl against Barnes at the Dick Weber Open. Our match was close only after I went brooklyn-brooklyn in the 8th and 9th for a 4-bagger.

In the 10th I needed the first strike and count to win. I wasn't gunna be the guy who went brooklyn 3 frames in-a-row to beat Barnes, so I moved about an arrow left and went high for a 3-6-10.

After the match I told Chris about my move in the 10th, he was humble and said it was tough out there that week and I should've taken whatever I can get. He's not as bad as people think, everyone has their good and bad days.

I've read post after post about Barnes choking and i've never put my two cents in. I think a lot of people fail to realize how different the lanes play on tv then they do all week.  I'm sure he has made some telecasts where the finals aren't even in the same building they used to qualify in, this has to be a factor.  The guy makes TV show after TV show so he has to be doing something right.

I keep reading about people saying he is a jerk, i've met him twice in person and he just seemed like a regular guy to me.  One time he was making an appearance at the bowling hof and the other time he was babysitting his children while his wife bowled the nationals in reno.  He acted the same when he was getting paid and when he wasn't.

I think he comes off as arrogant or as having a bad attitude on tv because he hasn't performed like he wants to.  I know plenty of bowlers whose attitudes are worse when they bowl less then they believe they are capable of.  I haven't seen him disrespect any of his opponents, do any physical damage to any of the bowling centers equipment or use excess profanity.

Give the guy a break, he's human and he loves bowling.  Just like all of us.

Not to try to justify anything, but Mike's a pretty straight down-and-in guy and the Shark pattern usually plays real deep.  Just not something that's gonna match up to his A-game.

Great to see all of the internet pro's and their advice on why Barnes will never win haven't made it to this thread.  I have not personally met him, so I won't try to say I know him.  I do know he is at or near the top almost every week on all types of patterns.  That alone tells me he not only has talent, but a great work ethic to boot.

Chris Barnes is very talented player. The best on the PBA Tour. He is one player you would love to have on your team. Next time if he is here in the Maryland area I am going to the clinic. It would be nice to get advise from him and the other pro's on tour. What's up MM2004

This is an interesting story.  I think if I were in that situation I would just just go brooklyn but you never know.

Good post. Initially, I was going to come into this post and start bashing the person who was bashing Barnes for his bowling as of lately. Thanks for a refreshing and positive post about a great PBA champion.

Some guys tend to forget he can bowl and win titles.

No doubt Barnes is a great bowler it just sucks that he can't get it right on TV.  I think everyone would agree that most of the time he beats himself on TV.  There were a few times when his opponent shot lights out but most of the time it's his mental mistake that causes the loss.

Like i've said many times before, if Barnes ever get's control over his mental issue on TV he's going to rack up a ton of titles in a hurry!

Douches worldwide have taken offense to this statement and would prefer you compare Mr. McCune to something else.
