Don't hate on TJ.  He just bowled better than the rest of the guys on the telecast.  His strikes may not have been prettier, but you'd have to give kudos to his ability to overpower the pins on a really difficult condition.

What the hell are you talking about? He never missed the pocket once, nothing he could do, it was a carry fest for those two and he lost. I would love to hear what you think he did wrong though.

Well, I guess bowling isn't about hitting the pocket anymore because you can have a bunch of crappy half pocket hits and have your power send ugly messengers around.

Then you say something like: YEAH!!! NO DOG IN ME!  And then stick your tongue out at the camera.

Their is a big difference between losing and getting beat.  Yesterday CB got beat.  He made good shots and TJ just out carried him and the others as well.  No one was going to beat that guy yesterday.  Like the commentators stated he had more pocket area than anyone else.

Barnes is considered a Power Player and he was out Powered by TJ by far.

I don't think you can blame Barnes at all.  He looked like he was bowling really good.

The moral of the story is learn to crank the ball.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

P.S.  I'm smoother than silk on the lanes.

Regardless of who won yesterday, that is one tough pattern and those guys were throwing bullets up there. Congrats for Tommy Jones, and the rest of the field for getting where they were. 50 foot pattern and those guys were throwing hard. download that program and find out for yourself.

Anybody else very impressed with how staight TJ was thrownig ( for him that is straight)

Yeah Dale that was really straight for TJ...I was more curious about the surface he had on the TNV...it was definitly duller than OOB 4000.

Well let's not give the ball all the credit.  From what I have seen the past month or so, that was the ONLY time I saw the Total NV do good on a tournament condition.  I guess it had to be in the hands of a machine to strike consistently.  I bet all these bowlers are going out to buy one after watching the show only to be dissappointed that it still sucks on anything more than medium oil THS for anyone not in the PBA.

I was three rows from the stage.  The TNV had to be roughly 1000 grit, it certainly was dulled.  BTW Jason Couch threw a 299 with one at Bradley on Friday.  Looked like that was box, but it was on a higher friction surface..

barnes is the Greg Norman of bowling. Wins some tournaments, even a major or two, always in contention but simply finds ways to lose.

I always maintained that Greg Norman was not getting nervous under pressure but instead had a technique problem.

I believe Chris Barnes combination of extremely tight thumb and shorter span which gives him a lot of versatility on the lanes.  Also under pressure causes some releases which are not so perfect.(ie the slams into the lane....hand over the top of ball etc) which are evident in a lot of his losses.

As only an observer of these fudged throws I qualify my statements by saying I cannot hold his bowling bag as a bowler and know it!

But from just a viewing sense....if under pressure with his setup one makes the SLIGHTEST mistake in release timing one gets a pretty muffed shot.  Others with different setups who are NOT so versatile with their play...have more of a margin of error in their timing and not get such a muffed shot!  (ie same slight timing error = a bigger mistake for Chris).

Very similar to the problem I believed Greg Norman had in his grip statics for the shots he wanted to play.

It was not really their mental approach to pressure but the smaller window of time they have to mistakes to get a good shot!

Anyway....for this particular show I saw none of these mistakes by Chris...I thought he bowled very well....he just got beat by some incredibly great bowling!

REgards,

Luckylefty

I am not really a Chris Barnes fan or anything but Tommy Jones bowled a 279 to beat him.  How can you blame that on Chris Barnes?

Exactly!  I bet if Barnes bowled 279 and lost to a 300 from Jones, you all would still blame Barnes.  Get real.  On any given Sunday, Barnes is the most technical bowler in the world and would whoop all of you for everything you have.  Also go see an optomologist if you are complaining of VERY SLIGHT flaws in Barnes game.

Norman had a knack for someone pulling off a miracle shot against him.

Larry Mize chip in to win the masters. Bob Tway holing a bunker shot to win the PGA. And there were several others.

Then he lost others with bad shots. Masters 1986, Us open against fuzzy

Barnes gets into contention all the time but cant seem to seal the deal

either his own mistake or someone else taking him out.
