Title: Belmo vs Machuga Match Play USBC Masters
Post by: JPbowling151 on February 24, 2013, 08:55:38 PM
Anyone see or know about an "incident" involving a distraction of some sort while Machuga was bowling the 10th frame in the winners bracket match against Belmo? I was on Twitter and came across some tweets on Machuga's page referring to an incident or incidents that happened during his match with Belmo.

I watched the match on Xtra Frame and there was no incident that was caught on camera or mentioned on the telecast.

That does not mean one did not happen, but if one did happen, you had to have been at Carolier to know.

The word is, on the balk before Machuga's last shot there was someone in the crowd coughing that made him pull up on the shot.  He was already taking about 60-90 seconds to focus for each shot in the tenth.  When he felt like it was the perfect time to go, he got caught in his backswing then had to regroup.  Unfortunately, after he did on his last shot he pulled it a bit left and went through the face.  I think he was playing the "What If" game on the shot he had to balk on.

It's a shame that every year in Carolier there seems to be some controversy in important matches all week and on the show from the stands.  Wes seemed a bit bothered today by some crowd activity and claims on his last shot he heard something loud in the distance which caused him to short it on the release.

Last year Pete got heckled a bit in Carolier.  A few years before, he and Wes both had some "fan interaction" on some important shots.  It's starting to seem like Jersey is getting a bad stigma on tour.

I wouldn't say NJ is getting a bad rep on tour, I would imagine this sort of thing happens at other stops in different states as well, its just part of what happens during a live event with fans so close to the action.

This is why I practice bowling around little kids. Distractions galore to get past! But watching Choogs and Malott, I felt bad for him at the end of the match. I was really hoping he would get at least the tie.

Choogs has always been a hard worker, a class act, and an outspoken gentleman of the game.  Keyword gentleman.  I really hope he gets his due some day because he's too talented to not have 10 more titles to his credit.

Jason, if you click on my story Machuga's blog is in it. The link to it and I copied and pasted it rather than selectively quoting from it.

My mistake :)  Mike is a class act and one of the most solid bowlers on tour.  I hope now that his wrist is better that this is only the beginning for him.

Agreed.  I'd love to see Machuga get some more wins.
