What happened to Belmonte, I thought he was gonna rip the place up this year? I haven't seen him yet.

He only bowled in 2 tournaments and then went back home.  Only an idiot would stay in the PBA making the crap money they do.  He makes over $100,000 USD bowling in tournaments back in Australia.

Another un-informed Necro post.  Shocker.  Belmonte is only bowling the 3 majors besides TOC and the two he was granted commissioners exemptions for.

:sigh:

Despite what people that are so enthralled with the Aussie's mega revs, Belmonte's skill level is still not on par (to say the least) with the world's best on differing oil patterns that are constantly tweaked and placed on surfaces that change from week to week.

Maybe not, but why would you bother here if you can clean house in Europe.

I believe that Belmo moved to France within the past year.

I don't know a lot about his game, but guessing as how he hasn't done all that well this season I would assume you are correct.  Although, not taking anything away from him because even with his whacky style he's still damn good.

The PBA is looking for anything to increase ratings, and the 2 hander isn't it.  I'd hate to see what he could do to a house pattern though.....

That'd explain his overseas dominance against abroad traveling PBA players and other countries' top amatuers and professionals on sport compliant patterns that are constantly tweaked and placed on surfaces in different countries that change from week to week right?

Exactly.  For some reason people still think the PBA is where the most money is at in the world of bowling.  It isn't even the most lucrative in the US.  There are cash games that go on that offer a lot more money than the PBA could ever put out.

It is like in poker when I used to play, screw being the best or playing the best people - play where you can win and win consistently.  If he can make more money elsewhere in "non-PBA tournament", then why wouldn't you?

Since when do the world's top bowlers (exempt PBA members) bowl on a CONSTANT basis in Europe and are so dramatically destroyed by the great Jason Belmonte?

DP3,

FWIW, I, like most people, enjoy watching Belmonte roll the ball.  What I said originally, if you had taken the time to read it properly, is that he is NOT YET ON PAR with the true elite.  That doesn't mean that I don't believe he can
get there.

As for playing in the PBA as opposed to playing in Europe or other parts of the world, it's very simple: to gain credibility and recognition as truly one of the greats of the sport (if he's able to beat the PBA's best, then there will never be a doubt).  And, yes, it would be good marketing for the beleagured PBA, but the argument that he stands more of a chance for making better money abroad, well, if he's truly that good, all he needs to do is win a few PBA events, and he'll be making money in other ways as well.

That's cause he's not bowling on these patterns week in and week out for the past 6 years like the other 40 mainstays on tour.  And if you check bowl.com and some of the results to these overseas tournaments, you will see ALOT of familiar names that you see on PBA.com every week.  I'm not making this up for the sake of arguing with you.  Fact. I'm only going to argue facts.

The man's bowled all of like 4 PBA events in his carrier, how about giving him a chance to get used to the patterns and everything before you say he isn't good enough to compete with the touring guys.

Read what I wrote.

In no way did I bash Belmonte, just pointed out that he basically hasn't paid his dues yet.  If he chooses to do so, he might very well be able to attain top level status.

Really??? Wow, I didn't know that.[/sarcasm off]

I've been around bowling long enough (check my profile) to know a thing or two about the sport, but fall into the "being able to/but having other responsibilities" category.

With that said, for those that choose to bowl for a living, bowling in the PBA is about prestige, credibility and respect.  Just ask Mika Koivuniemi.
