Belmonte in Summer Series, is now a member...
« on: May 09, 2008, 01:33:36 AM »
Don't know why, but as the USBC is now a major sponsor of the summer event, they picked Belmonte to bowl in it. It's on the press release from PBA.com.

Belmonte also recently became a PBA member...hmmm...think he thinks he can compete?

i've got nothing against jason belmonte but i'm going to wait to see how he does on the pba tour before i hand out any accolades to him. many of this forum praised brian kretzer and rudy kasimakis as the "greatest ever" and yet neither of them has won a pba title........

If you had seem him bowl live you would know that Belmonte along with a fair few other bowlers not from the US (Paul Moor,Dominic Barret,Osku Palerma etc) are more than capable of doing well.

Andrew Frawley made the telecast at the US open and in my opinion (having seen all four bowl live) I would say that they are ALL better than Frawley and thats with him being a top notch bowler anyway.

He may or may not do anything but give the guy a chance before you start putting the boot in. Don't forget unlike the US,bowlers in places like Oz and the UK tend NOT to bowl on THS/Blocked lanes like many in the US,meaning he has a better chance of doing well than some house hack who thinks he is king because he can ave 230 on a THS which he has bowled on in the same house for years.
--------------------
I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

the 2 events he participated he cashed, one he lost to the champion of the tournament Norm Duke in match play, and the other one, he finished top 16, thats the US open.

i personally want to see how far he can take his style to.
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I've got no doubt he can compete...I was more or less referencing his quote from an interview with BJI, where he said he'll get his Tour card when he thinks he's ready.

No disrespect to Jason Belmonte, or anyone else. But, anyone who wants to compete should have to go through the the "TRIALS" that everyone else has too. Not given a free pass to compete.

Look at what Rhino page did last year. Yes he is a hell of a talent, but that didn't come overnight.

He's getting a free pass courtesy of the USBC...for ONLY the Summer Series (which the USBC sponsors, and gets to choose one bowler for). If he wants to go on Tour, he HAS to do it like Rhino, like anyone else.

seems to me that bill hoffman of the usa should be the #1 ranked amateur in the world since he won the world amateur championships........

Who said that? If you meant me, where did I say that? If anything, I said he CAN compete. And...nobody else said he won't be able to compete. So...I have no clue where this comment is coming from...

I'm pretty sure WRW and Barnes have already something about it said something about it already, they have been quoted he's one of the best out there right now..

maybe not the best, but they think he's good enough to compete...at least Barnes does, he's had plenty of run-ins with Belmo

Belmo this, Belmo that, Blah blah blah Belmo.........

Seriously though, I think he can and will be very successful on tour. I have seen him bowl a few times, he's a awesome sight to watch.

Can somebody refresh my memory?

Which World Amateur Championship did he win?

There must be more than one because the 2007 World Ranking Masters Champion was Stuart Williams from England.

I saw Belmonte bowl at the US Open the day before the telecast, and he's insanely consistent.  Search youtube.com for some of his stuff he'll do really well in the PBA methinks.
