Belmos bottle vs Angelo
« on: April 03, 2011, 02:44:02 AM »
It really looked to me (I saw the video about it on youtube so I was watching for it) that Belmo intentionally crinkled his bottle in the middle of Angelos approach.

If so thats a dick move.

If you're on the pro tour, you should be able to bowl through noise. Man up and bowl. Use any tactic to throw off your opponent and it worked.

I'm in the process of trying to find out where I fit in the bowling world. I do not know my tech specs of my game, but it's all a learning process.

Pros seem to make the biggest deal out of the smallest noises. He made a bad shot and I doubt that the sound of the bottle had anything to do with it.

If its total silence noise is distracting.

I dont know for sure if he did it on purpose and we never will. But his picking it up by the top excuse is crap. His hand was on the bottle when it made the noise.

DukeHarding had a post about this very thing yesterday I believe.

I thought it was way overblown by Angelo.

Angelo just needed something to blame his bad bowling on and that was it. He is a professional and Angelo shouldnt let that bother him. So what happens if Angelo is up and Belmo's seat makes a noise cause he moved in it. I dont believe Belmo did it intentionally because he is more professional than Angelo is. I just hope Castillo could have bowled better and beat both of them into the ground but o well. See you Thursday Dino.

Any noise is a quiet room can be distracting and Brad was right on mentioning it.  I think Belmo did make the noise, but it was not on purpose.  I seeems like Belmo just squeezes a plastice bottle whenever he picks one up.   Just like a person drumming on a desk with their fingers or someone popping chewing gum.  It is done without thinking about it.

If Belmonte did do it on purpose, Angelo should have been able to ignore it. I have bowled pot games where people did everything you imagine to throw other bowlers off, and 1 of them was an old time pro. You just learned to ignore it and bowl. A flashbulb going off is one thing, but a water bottle crinkling? Come on...

How about some good old fashioned ear plugs? Myself, I could probably bowl with mortars going off in the background.

copy/paste from other post

Not a Brad Angelo fan, but I have two points.

When you watch Brad on the approach and step off and ect you can tell he is very uncomfortable and doesn't look like he wants to make the shot.(scared)

The other is in watching Jasons mannerisms from start to finish with the bottle and the way he keeps messing with it. Picking it up, and setting it down ect along with eye balling Brad on the approach.

I would say if you based it just off watching Jason it was intentional. I also think Brad was going to miss regardless. He didn't looked prepared.

Jason finger f$@ked the water bottle several times before the shot with out making a sound, and then during the approach gives it a nice death grip squeeze? Bush league.

Also don't ever compare what you do during pot games or anything else to what these guys are doing for a living on national television, it sounds that stupid. Think softball guy at a local tournament comparing himself to an MLB player during the World Series. Don't be that guy.

Be good, or be good at it.

Well, there have been guys on the tour in the past that made a living on this sort of thing. If you see any of the older tournament tapes, watch some of the guys jack the other bowlers up - some guys bowl better mad, but others don't.

I was going to name names but decided to remain on speaking terms with people - LOL

I believe Brad said "it was the third time". So either it was intentional or Belmo has alot of nervous energy. I didn't bother rewinding it but I was was wondering how bad Belmo really "stuck" just before Brad had to shoot the ten. I guess you do what you got to do w/ the prize fund what it is.

3 perfect examples of people who made a living doing this: Ernie Schlegel (the Randy Pedersen solid 8-pin in the 10th frame incident says it all).  Noone can forget Marshall Holman (Holman vs. Wayne Webb back around 1997 is just one example when he was showboating all match).  Then there was Bob Vespi who most bowlers on tour at the time didn't exactly like because of his antics.  Finally in the early 90's, Chris Warren had enough during a title match and put Vespi in his place.  This was of course after Warren won and got the last laugh.  All of these can be found on YouTube.

Belmo with the water bottle is nothing compared to those I just mentioned.  As for Brad Angelo, I have seen him bowl leagues up in Lockport before (I live near there after all), and he always had that nervous look even before turning pro.  He needs to learn to concentrate on making better shots, because his ball reaction the past several shows has always been short of where it should be.  Or maybe he should dump Brunswick after all of these years (he used Brunswick in house leagues before turning pro also).

Let's go back in the day to when the crowd was hooting and cheering during the bowlers approach and delivery.

I use whatever ball works for me.
