Best day to go to a PBA event
« on: December 28, 2008, 02:11:57 PM »
For those of you who have gone to watch during the week, what day in your opinion is the best to go to and what squad (early or late) is the most interesting to watch?

What do you want to see?
If you want to see the really hungry guys, go on Wednesday and watch the TQR.
If you want to see ALL the exempt players, go on Thursday and watch the qualifying.
If you want to see the real drama, go on Friday and watch the rounds of 32, 16, and 8 (or the match play in the other format).
If you want to get autographs, shoot the ... with the guys, and generally be a real fan, go on Saturday, during the pro ams and other events.
If you want the drama of live TV, go on Sunday.

Or do what we're going to do in Medford next month, and go to all of 'em!

I am planning on going to the Etonic Marathon Open in Indy Feb.23-March 1. Two hours each way, work schedule, and kids will probably make it a one day trip.

never been to one, but the pro ams on saturday look to be the most fun of them all, if you're taking your kids

I agree with Mumzie, but remember to take a cushion if you plan on sitting in the stands, gets kinda rough after a few hours of sitting especialy during friday matchplay.  Sometimes can be difficult to jockey for position to watch your favorite players.

I have been to many PBA tour events and have seen everything except the TQR's.

To be honest, it's all great and it's hard to explain what day or time is the best to go because it's all in different stages. I will say the actual TV show final being there can be over rated. I got to see a good event and some poor ones but the problem with tv is all the production behind it. The best one I got to see was Dallas 2002 when Ritchie Allen shocked everyone beating Rick Steelsmith for his first title. I got there super early and was one of the first in line. Unfortunately I found out all the good close seats are reserved.
I also found out that some of the people in the front that were cute girls were paid by Espn to sit there to look good on tv.

Match play is probably the most enjoyable. Round Robin you get to see more players and final match play can be intense and bracket one on one is also intense especially when it goes 7 games.

Qualifying is equally as interesting. You get to see all the players along with all the emotions with it. Towards the later games, you will see more frustration with the players that may not make the cut and you see the confidence from the players that made the cut. This is a bunch of bowling to see and your brain may get fried at the end of the night from just watching all of that but it's worth it!

Really if your going to go, I would see all qualifying on Thursday and all match play events. It's not in Dallas/Fort Worth this year which I'm upset about and didn't want to drive to Wichita or Denver.
I think next time it comes by here I will check out the TQR.

The first year the tour was back in Birmingham I was lucky enough to get a pass for the whole week. For me seeing it all was awsome. I can't really put one day ahead of the others to be there. The tqr was good to see the guys hunting to get into the field. Qualifying was great watching the raw emotions coming out of everyone. Then you have Friday that was even more intense. Saturday was ok due to the pro am going on. Sunday I was lucky enough to be second row behind the bowlers. What a great show and great time. To bad you are stuffed in there though.
I guess it just depends on what you want to see. For me so I could see all of the players it would be Thursday to go.
