Blinking Scoreboard
« on: January 27, 2008, 06:13:26 PM »
Did anyone else notice the scoreboard that kept blinking on or off and/or dimming, even while the bowlers are in their approach?
I know that I've seen that occasionally in the past, but it was happening all day today. How could that not distract the bowlers?
And if it keeps happening (not just on today's show, but commonly in the past), why the heck doesn't the PBA come up with something else? Or buy a new one?

I was wondering if that actually happens or if it has to do with the cameras when they change angles. I notice the same thing. I dont know why that would cause it---but I also know the pros have stopped for alot less than that.

It's only on TV from the refresh rate of the cameras vs the scoreboard.

it happens with any computer screen on t.v. most screens that appear on shows are card board mock ups or else they would also flash like that.

I was wondering because the blink would also reflect on the lane surface, and that led me to believe it was actually happening in person.

I have noticed this tons of times on previous telecasts. I have always meant to post something about it on here, but just never have gotten to it. I really noticed it a lot yesterday as well. I thought maybe it is the way the camera angle is, and how it zooms in when a bowler starts his approach and releases the ball, and just the way the lights can temporarily blind it. Kind of like street lights can be sometimes. Just weird...
