Days Inn Open
« on: February 19, 2004, 09:05:12 AM »
Went to the event for this evening's squad.  Looked like the lanes were a bit tighter than last year-not as many guys lofting over the gutter cap.  Still, most everybody but David Traber was really bending it.  Traber, as usual, was going straigt and hard down 8.  He was about 145 over, enough to make the cut, when I left in game 8.  Walter Ray was doing great, going pretty straight compared to everyone else.  But even Mika was deep, for him.

You have to see these guys in person to realize how good the top pros are.  Tough way to make a living.  They throw really, really hard and cover lots of boards.  There are some unusual styles (Blase Bedolla, for one) and some conventional styles (Paul Fleming, Danny Wiseman, Brian Voss) and its interesting to see the contrasts.

There was one guy, Eduardo Crow, from Mexico.  How did he even get in the tournament?  He averaged 149 for the first 7.  Threw really slow, missed lots of single and two pin spares.  People would clap for him if he got a strike or pick up a mark.  Hey, I can breeze 4 pins, think I should get in next year?
