Am I reading this right? 1st place for the Masters is only $30,000? Second is $25,000? Please tell me I’m reading this incorrectly.

I think they are getting paid what they deserve, based on the corporate sponsorships they attract. The sad thing was tuning in to see a bunch guys bowl who aren't very good and I have no interest in watching them struggle. It was like turning on Masters at Augusta and seeing local pros playing for green jacket. I know Buttruff is the up and coming superstar, I just don't think he is fun to watch.

PBA financial fate was sealed in the 60s and 70s.  Bowling consistently drew higher tv ratings than golf, and even the NBA.   Yet they were unable to  garner big money corporate sponsors commensurate with the tv ratings. A big reason was that high level corporate executives spent their leisure time at country clubs, not bowling the Thursday night commercial league.   Indeed the middle aged execs had an image of smoke filled pool rooms with bowling lanes upstairs, and didnt consider the bowling crowd as a worthwhile demogrsphic to reach.

bowling needs Kyle Troup to get big time, then bowling also needs a new PDW

Tom Clark got the commissioners job because he wrote nice articles about bowling for the online edition of USA Today. He has ZERO business leadership experience and it shows.

Clowns like Kyle Troup are great for a day, but long term, bowling needs men of class and talent to win over anyone in the corporate world. The PGA model is the model the PBA should be striving for. Clean cut, nice clothes (not bowling ball billboard shirts), and knows how to talk to a corporate leader.
Balls: Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Golden Jackal, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Hyper Sniper. All made in the USA.

It's been said plenty of times on here, bowling needs its own Tiger Woods.  I like watching Kyle Troup and he is a great TV personality, but not quite Tiger Woods material.  Maybe if Mookie Betts hung up his bat and glove and put all his talent and effort into bowling???  Somebody like that would fit the bill.

I watched the entire Masters telecast and caught myself making fun of what I was watching and started to feel a little guilty because these guys are awesome bowlers and in a position I'll never find myself in.  Then Rob Stone dropped the joke about Mitch Hupe being the lead singer of Loverboy in his other gig.  I laughed my ass off and didn't feel guilty anymore.

The talent and skill and matches were great to watch, but the rest of that telecast was comedy gold.  The two semi attractive chicks in the background loving their time on TV was funny.  Hot chicks on a PBA telecast is something you never see.  Then in match 3 the two typical Vegas douchebags in their tacky sportjackets, gold chains, and Elvis sunglasses making a move on them and chasing them away was hilarious!!!
In the bag:  900 Global Zen, Hy Road Pearl, Astro Physix.

finding a pro version of tiger is damn near impossible.  its why the PGA hasn't found anyone since he left.  Rory is super dominant, but he doesn't come close in comparison to Tiger in attendance drawing ability.

Tiger had an amazing combination of charisma and talent.  Like, to the point where he was cocky.

the PBA has plenty of great bowlers, but most of the PBA bowlers are boring in personality.

the PBA can't hope for its version of tiger, the PBA needs another PDW.  somebody who can bring some attitude to the game.   And it just needs some more personalities in general.  theres not enough action in bowling to get past the boring people.

and mookie betts hanging up his glove.....?  Mookie Betts won his arbitration in January and will play this season for $20 Million after making $10.5 million last year.  And hes still in arbitration, and just to track baseball contracts.  Mike Trout just signed a 12 year $426.5M contract, manny machado signed a 10 year $300M, and bryce harper signed a 13 year $330M contract...  Mookie will get something similar.  I don't see him hanging up his Nike's for some Dexters any time soon

Am I the only one who finds Kyle Troop's act to be on the douchebag side?  ???

Perhaps you should also stay off my lawn...  ;D

Bowling needs another Ambassador like Dick Weber!

I was never a fan of bowlers whose antics, or overbearing personalities, become just as important, (or more important) than their physical talent.  I get it ,but I just don't agree with it and never did. That goes for the cartoonish-like jerseys they wear, which makes them look like a cheesy neon billboard. No wonder bowling continues to get a bad rap when the powers that be think that televised events should look, act, and sound as if they are being staged in a studio wrestling arena.

Count me in as supporting the codes and standards in use on the PGA.  Let's just try going back to some of the old PBA standards. Gimmicks are good for only so long. There is more than enough boorish behavior taking place all around us these days as it is. Dumbing down our great sport does a terrible disservice to the talent it takes to play the game. The PGA gets it, but certain elements of the bowling industry do not.

Finally, while on the subject of "dumbing down" televised bowling, let's say we get rid of that ridiculous "blue oil" . I can't count how many house bowlers have told me
that the PBA events are being played on walled conditions, when those of us who
have played on those conditions know better.

The ball companies run the show. Nothing will get done that puts them second to the actual bowlers.
The Future of Bowling: Bowling is a once-popular tavern game played with a heavy ball and ten pins.

Too an extent, I get this. I remember watching EJ Tackett throw whatever the newest Motiv ball regardless of shot.

However on the flip side, I can’t imagine ball companies extremely happy to see their pro firing their urethane balls up the ditch when they got new high priced balls recently released.

Thought about that as well willis9. I mean the normal league player isn’t rushing out to his local pro shop to drill one or two purple hammers.

Tournament bowlers should.  Its the best urethane I have thrown of the the dozen or so I have owned.  If only going to own one urethane that is the one to buy.

They seem to be in this area. Every league night I see several of them being used as well as some of the Storm Urethane.

Not with great effect of course...

On the other hand...Scout/R $68.95 vs. Purple Hammer $126.95. (bowlerx pricing). They probably aren't actually that upset about the Purple Hammer.
