I was never a fan of bowlers whose antics, or overbearing personalities, become just as important, (or more important) than their physical talent. I get it ,but I just don't agree with it and never did. That goes for the cartoonish-like jerseys they wear, which makes them look like a cheesy neon billboard. No wonder bowling continues to get a bad rap when the powers that be think that televised events should look, act, and sound as if they are being staged in a studio wrestling arena.
Count me in as supporting the codes and standards in use on the PGA. Let's just try going back to some of the old PBA standards. Gimmicks are good for only so long. There is more than enough boorish behavior taking place all around us these days as it is. Dumbing down our great sport does a terrible disservice to the talent it takes to play the game. The PGA gets it, but certain elements of the bowling industry do not.
Finally, while on the subject of "dumbing down" televised bowling, let's say we get rid of that ridiculous "blue oil" . I can't count how many house bowlers have told me
that the PBA events are being played on walled conditions, when those of us who
have played on those conditions know better.
