Barnes career wins---updated
« on: March 02, 2009, 07:31:52 AM »
Someone asked about Chris Barnes title match victories.....

Majors:
2005 US Open
Barnes 213-Allen 212
I believe this is where Barnes left a 2 pin on his 2nd shot of the 10th and converted to win.

2006 Tournament of Champions
Barnes 234-Jaros 227
Barnes needed a mark in the 10th to win.

Other titles:

1999 Erie, PA
Barnes 214-Kasimakis 197

1999 Portland, OR
Barnes 278-Duke 207

2001-2002 Hendersonville, TN
Barnes 234-Scroggins 195

2002-2003 Dallas, TX
Barnes 244-Bohn 194

2003-2004 Tokyo, Japan
Barnes 210-Jones 179

2006-2007 Irving, TX
Barnes 235-May 216 (Barnes needed count in the 10th to win)

2007-2008 El Paso, TX
Barnes 241-Jones 158

2007-2008 Columbus, OH
Barnes 209-Simard 197 (Barnes 9/7 in the 10th gave Simard a chance to strike out to win, but Simard could only get the 1st one). This was the day where Barnes piped the ball to the pocket on the right lane. But when he needed 9 to lock it up, he throws 7 on the fill. Simard left a baby split.

2009 Ohio
Barnes 258-Mika 172

Barnes average in title games-----now 233.63.
His opponents average in title games---195.81.

This was fun for me. Because other than the Kasimakis final, where I cant verify what he needed, Barnes has either run over his opponent, or backed into a title.

Barnes average in TV finals is 231.2.

His opponents in those matches---198.2.

After bowling tonight I could find his 2nd place finishes and see the times he's had a chance. Michael Haugen anyone???

I know I could get flamed for this, but at the same time---look at it. His supporters say "Lets see you do it". Ok, against 198.2, I'll take my chances.

The 10th frame of that US Open was pretty epic. PA goes ringing 7, Barnes goes perfect strike, straight through the nose 2-pin, spare for the win.

Good TV.

Barnes wins when the other bowler chokes harder than him, or its a blow out.

US Open - PA leaves a 6/8 in the middle of the match and goes for it.  He was working on a strike.  Missed both pins.  Resulting in losing 2 pins in count.  If he got one pin, he would have won the match by a pin.

Yeah, you're right, it was the 4.

Of course, in the 8th (with a chance to put it away) he yanks one through the face, leaves the 3-6-10 and takes the 3-6 off of it.

Very good match for the viewers.

So my point is pretty clear, hes never stepped up in the 10th needing 2 or 3 to win and perform.  He has however needed the hits and not came through, first one in my head is against Delutz a few years ago, needing 9/9 to tie, or anything better to win, thrown all 9 counts and strikes all day long, and goes 9/7 (2-4-5) giving Delutz the title.  Trust me no one will ever say he doesn't have game, but its pretty safe to say on tv he has some mental issues.

Congrats to Chris on adding to his resume. Maybe I should post this every week......

I've already seen the Barnes supporters suggest people eat crow.

I'm waiting for the "Now he can move on and be the greatest" comment.......

I guess I'll ask this question:  If Barnes always chokes, and isn't clutch, then who are the bowlers that are clutch?  And if they are so "clutch",  why don't they have 64 TV appearances?

Also, Reggie Jackson's career League Champoinships Series stats were not good.  In over 160 LCS at bats, Reggie had 6 HR, 20 RBI, and hit at a .227 clip.  Yet, we call him "Mr. October".  We say things like, "When the lights shined brightest, Reggie was always there.", "He loved the pressure"  But why didn't he hit in the LCS?  How did he know his team was going to win?  My point is:  this word "clutch" is so overused.

I could care less if Barnes ever wins again, but to say he CAN'T make big shots is ridiculous.

Wasn't the 2nd title...the one he won in Portland in 99 wasn't on tv?

I must also add what is not on there that doesn't count for wins but the money winnings and that is the Rolls to Riches which he won back to back. Including the one in Lewisville, TX in 06 I think it was where I attended and Barnes and Scroggins were going back in forth with strikes at the end and Barnes on it on a Brooklyn to win the cash.
But winning that event twice in a row is amazing. First time he got on it was from fan votes and the second time was from his Major win...Open or the TOC.
