Wish I would have been able to watch it. Was down in Indy at the NFL Experience and checking out the stuff that's going on for the Super Bowl. Watching the 2nd match right now on Youtube.

I really didn't see what happened today as a choke.

Barnes just got beat, that's all.

If his Omen ball did crack just prior to competition in the finals, which prevented him from using his #1 weapon, isn't that just a really bad break? Maybe a sign from above?

i do not see this as a choke, but more of over thinking  on barnes part after he tripped the 4 pin on the right.  the next shot on that lane was light then the split.

Barnes throws one bad shot (and not the shot he left the split) and he is a choker??  Clueless, clueless, clueless!!!  The worst shot of the match was the shot he left the 2-4.  I wondered why he wasnt using the Omen because even though he snapped out a couple 10s, the Outburst seemed like it was struggling to read the pattern.  So, to say that it cracked and was unusable makes sense.  I dont know about you guys, but bowling for that much money, if I knew I threw it good and the ball creeps high and trips a 4 pin, I sure as heck wont throw it there again for fear of exactly what happened (split).  Overall, I think Barnes threw it better than Fagan.  Fagan just got the carry at the end of the game when he needed it.  Good for Fagan though!  I like watching him also and was good to see him win a big one.

I agree completely. I thought he threw the shot that left him the split really well. Looked to me like the move I would have tried if I were out there playing. Unfortunately the ball read a little extra friction and jumped high on him. Happens to everyone occasionally from time to time.

And I am no Barnes apologist. I have seen him choke in the past. But this wasn't one of those occasions.

Normally, I would say Barnes choked.  However, this time I think it was just an adjustment from the prior shot on the same lane that caused it to go high.  It actually didn't even look like a bad shot off his hand.  The oil was a little screwy today for everyone.

I'm always the first to say when someone chokes and i'm pretty fair and unbiased when doing so, that being said I do not belive Barnes choked.  The right lane had some unique breakdown going on late in that match.

I WOULD say however that Fagan did his job and TOOK the title in a sense.

So Fagan won it more than Barnes choked.

I don't think Barnes choked, Fagan just out bowled him.

Barnes didn't look all that comfortable from the start.  I wouldn't call that a choke.  He just didn't get a read on the lane and went for broke with  his adjustments.   Didn't work out for him.   This time it was no a choke.

It's kind of crazy that he's gotten to the point where the mere mention of choke and everyone knows what professional bowler you're talking about.

Chris said this about his bowling ball choice on facebook:

"Left lane was tough to carry on and was about 3 tighter.  The Outburst I used handled that lane well but hooked too early for the easier right lane.  I should have used the Omen (that I used all week) on the right lane and the Outburst on the left."

So that ball was available...

Another poster worrying about "spoiler alerts" on a tape delayed show lol

The "argyle assassin"......lol what a nickname

Barnes didn't choke he just failed to make the adjustment on the right lane and cost him the match. Fagan had a better reaction. Most be nice to be a number 1 seed and even have this stupid conversation. As many titles he has and shows he's made and most of all which no one has a clue about is how many match play appearances he's made he hasn't really choked  much in his life. It's the stupid posters that know nothing about bowling that never follow bowling on pba.com and see live tournaments in the past (when they actually had those) and only dvr a bowling event and see this guy all the time and think he's a choker. It's bullshit and untrue. Barnes is one of the greatest bowlers ever and number of titles is irrelevant at this point in his career as he's a living legend and destined for the hall of fame.

EPIC FAIL

This show was live, that was why Gary Thorne was doing the commentary and not Rob Stone.

I think most will agree that Barnes is vulnerable during a 1 game match. But give him a 3 game total pins match, he's the best out there.

Sorry if I lost track or near interest in the enviable demise of the PBA but I still love bowling. As one that used to follow live scores on the internet when most all tournaments were live, I lost interest in tape delayed shows. Course should have realized that this was in a different bowling center but still was in Las Vegas. Never bothered to follow a major championship this year when the previous major was tape delayed. Until the PBA gets new ownership and has serious funding for this tour, it will fail at this rate. The world series of bowling was a atrocious idea that would have been at least decent if they did it in summer and keep it away from the PBA tour if you actually want to call it a tour. Let's have 10 events in one city and then way down the line we will have a tournament somewhere else. I'm pretty sure the definition of a "tour" is not being stationary in one place for 4 months and manipulating the public to trick them they are live events.

I'm glad Fagan won...Im far from a Barnes fan. I do believe that it was probably equal parts Fagan and Barnes...Fagan had a better line and executed better. Did Barnes choke? I don't believe so, just didn't have as good a look as Fagan did.

I do agree that in a double elimination tournament such as the Masters, the #1 seed should have to lose twice for the other player to win. I thought I remembered seeing the Masters final on TV quite a few years ago and the #1 seed did have to lose twice....
