I was looking at who made match play, no Walter or Scroggies. So does this mean Barney is a lock for POY?
*ON edit* Scroggies did make match play so he does have a chance

Well, they still have one game left before match play is set.. It looks like neither of them is going to make it though. If neither of them make the show, Barnes is your POY

Check that... Mike Scoggins just made match play, if he happens to win the whole thing, he's your POY

I believe thats only true if neither Walter or Barnes make Stepladder. If Scroggie wins, and neither of them make match play, then hes POY.
-
the only way scroggy wins is if he wins the US Open..

Does this mean Scroggins will get 23 POY points if he wins the US Open?
What if Tommy jones wins? He's only 1 point behind Scroggins.
WRW finished in 39th; Barnes finished in 50th place.
POY Points
Barnes - 64
WRW - 62
Scroggins - 41
Jones 40
Can anyone point us to the chart that shows what gives a player how many POY points?

Should Barnes and Williams both miss the top 24, the last man who could potentially still be in the race is Mike Scroggins, who must win the title this week to win the award by one point. Scroggins, who is looking to become the first left-handed bowler to win the U.S. Open since Mike Aulby in 1989, is 33rd heading into the final round of qualifying.
From PBA.com^^^
The Geico gave 12 points to the winner. The US Open is a major so I believe that the winner gets double of a normal event which would be 24 points. So it appears that Scoggins would have to win the open since he is 23 points below now. That's going to be a hard task since he is now in last place of the 24 who made the cut.

Standard events are 16 to the winner, majors are 24. Scroggins wins it, he's at 65 vs. Barnes' 64. TJ wins, he's tied with 64 but the points list is the tiebreaker, so Barnes would take it.

And that means Jones could still tie Barnes, but Barnes would win POY because he has more "plain" points?

Yes, if Tommy wins he ties Barnes in points, but it would to Chris because he is higher in the point rankings.

Seems fair to me. TJ's made three shows and has a third fewer points in the regular points list. And he lost to Barnes in the Bayer Classic. Barnes has made nine shows, is 2nd to TJ's 8th in points. Made more money, too.
If TJ had Barnes' TV record, we wouldn't even know his name.

It's nice of you to be fair, but in this first set of match games, he is doing rather poorly with a 1-7 record. He's in 23rd place, 362 pins from making the show. Unless he does a LOT better in the next 2 rounds, ...heck, even then I don't see him climbing into 4th place. I think he'd have to avg 250 and win all his games. Since he's averaging 205 ...

The difference from first to last going into the 7th game yesterday was a mark a game. John Nolen was averaging 204, where as Norm Duke was averaging 214.
There's still a lot of games to go, everyone. 16 left. I'm actually pulling for Scroggins to win POY over Barnes.
Even though I'd rather see Valenta rip apart everyone

That's a bit disingenuous, isn't it? The difference in average is a mark, granted. But after 35 games, that's 350 pins.

chris barnes will be pba player of the year for 2007-2008. mike scroggins is over 500 pins behind with 8 games of matchplay remaining. the bigger question is how will all the members of "the chris barnes choker fan club" handle this ?
