Chris Warren -- conventional grip?
« on: December 09, 2007, 01:49:32 PM »
I thought I heard them mention that Warren was throwing with a conventional grip nowadays, and then I never heard anyone explain it. Did I hear right?

I'm not sure how he could hook it like that with a conventional grip.  I would of liked to see his balls up close.

It looked like he was using regular fingertip to me...maybe without grips.

If you looked close you could see it was conventional with his pinky tucked.

That was one of my issues with the "let's skip ahead" format they used for the 4 man match...Randy brought up that fact and said he would elaborate later.  I'm sure that he did and I'm also sure that it was talked about over one of the skipped sections.

Tangent: I was surprised that he had a drug problem. I can understand alcohol, but drugs? Then again, didn't PDW have a nose candy issue, too? I just find it funny that pro bowlers, who really don't make that much money except for the highest echelon of talent can develop a drug habit. I'm glad he made it back, but I was strange to hear.

actually you can hook a conventional grip quite a bit more than a fingertip ball.

You're probably right, Mongo. I still think it's funny that bowlers could be using coke or harder drugs.

There is still a huge drug problem outthere, however nobody wants to talk about it. I was at the first stop they did in Alabama a few years ago. I will not name anyone but I did see a lot of stoned faces while I was there on the pba players after they had bowled for the day.

Can you elaborate on that?  One of the major advantages of the fingertip grip is that it is significantly easier to get out of the ball cleanly, you can more easily stay under or behind the ball, and can get more leverage.  Maybe this "more hook" is related to slower ball speed?

Not going to mention names but i know that at least 4 bowlers on tour are pot heads...including some big name players.
