I thought I heard them mention that Warren was throwing with a conventional grip nowadays, and then I never heard anyone explain it. Did I hear right?

I did hear the same thing but never heard them elaborate.

I'm not sure how he could hook it like that with a conventional grip. I would of liked to see his balls up close.

It looked like he was using regular fingertip to me...maybe without grips.

If you looked close you could see it was conventional with his pinky tucked.
-
That was one of my issues with the "let's skip ahead" format they used for the 4 man match...Randy brought up that fact and said he would elaborate later. I'm sure that he did and I'm also sure that it was talked about over one of the skipped sections.

I believe they said that when he was picking up the 10 pin...

Tangent: I was surprised that he had a drug problem. I can understand alcohol, but drugs? Then again, didn't PDW have a nose candy issue, too? I just find it funny that pro bowlers, who really don't make that much money except for the highest echelon of talent can develop a drug habit. I'm glad he made it back, but I was strange to hear.

actually you can hook a conventional grip quite a bit more than a fingertip ball.

You're probably right, Mongo. I still think it's funny that bowlers could be using coke or harder drugs.

There is still a huge drug problem outthere, however nobody wants to talk about it. I was at the first stop they did in Alabama a few years ago. I will not name anyone but I did see a lot of stoned faces while I was there on the pba players after they had bowled for the day.

Both I would say.

Can you elaborate on that? One of the major advantages of the fingertip grip is that it is significantly easier to get out of the ball cleanly, you can more easily stay under or behind the ball, and can get more leverage. Maybe this "more hook" is related to slower ball speed?

Not going to mention names but i know that at least 4 bowlers on tour are pot heads...including some big name players.

So long as they're not juiced, right?

So if we guess you you tell us if we are right or not.

My first ball was a semi-conventional and I switched to fingertip a couple seasons later, I just happened to pull it out about a week ago and I could get it to rev more than I ever could with a fingertip. Made me think about going back or at least somewhere in between. I got more revs and it snapped harder and probably hooked too much coming out the gates but I had a good night with it that night and not so much the next time out. I really don't know what I should do. I'm still finding my game so i'm not set on anything but I'm working on it? Don't mean to hijack

I'm going to view the above statement in a skeptical light...
This, on the other hand, makes a little more sense to me-
Fingertip... more revs, less axis tilt... smoother, stronger (earlier roll) reaction.
Conventional... less revs, more axis tilt... longer and snappier reaction.

it wouldn't surprise me if chris warren used a conventional grip. back when he was in his prime( late 1980's and early 1990's ) he used to really strap it with urethane balls. this new grip may let him whack the reactive balls without them overreacting.
-
I'd always heard his issue was with cocaine, but that's no where near first hand information.

Does it really matter? Why can't people simply focus on Squeak's resurgence following the move to the Pacific NW and be happy for the guy?
-
If you guy's go to www.brunswickinsiders.com, click on the tournament for the week and go to photos. You can clearly see chris is using a conventional grip or a semi-finger tip.

I don't know what his span is, but it definitely doesn't look conventional to me. He's not a big guy, so I'd guess that it's a full finger tip. Maybe it's relaxed like what's suggested now anyway, but not conventional.

Chris got on PBA.com tonight and confirmed it is a conventional grip. He said he does it because a fingertip grip "tires his hand out" and a conventional grip does not.
The opposite is true for me but you can't deny he makes it work for him.
