What exempt pro's will be heading to the Tour Trials???
« on: March 30, 2005, 11:31:00 AM »
The PBA website has been posting the bubble list through the first two days of the World Championships, listing 35th-47th in points...
from 35-58th...3 bowlers are not participating (PDW, Justin Hromek, and Peter Hernandez)...PDW is already exempt for next year, and Hromek is retiring.

After the first cut, it looks like we'll see these guys in Merrillville, IN...

Jim Pratt (89th after 18 games...cut is top 84)
Jason Queen (101st)
Tore Torgersen (103rd)
Patrick Girard (121st)
Peter Hernandez (DNP)

Here's a list of those who survived the first cut and still can become exempt (who were placed 35-58th in points)...

Tim Criss (10th)
Bob Learn Jr (12th)
Richard Wolfe (27th)
Brian LeClair (31st)
Brian Kretzer (32nd)
Eric Forkel (38th)
Steve Jaros (40th)
Bryon Smith (46th)
Chris Johnson (51st)
Shannon Buchan (63rd)
Lonnie Waliczek (66th)
Steve Wilson (67th)
Hugh Miller (67th)
DJ Archer (69th)
Bill Rowe (70th)
Dennis Horan Jr (73rd)
Eugene McCune (74th)

Granted, some of these guys would need to win the entire tournament to earn their exemption, like Bill Rowe or DJ Archer, but they're still in it.  Some of these guys may be able to lock up a spot if they advance past the cut tomorrow.  Only time will tell

Note: Top 36 will advance to match play after another 9 qualifying games tomorrow

So, remind me again, exactly HOW was the exempt tour a good idea? Oh right, the PBA's excuse was that it would create "exciting rivalries"...Hmm, now who exactly are rivals??

True, but they were rivals before.   I mean, who has become rivals, strictly because of the exempt tour?  Likely nobody.

Sounds like either Pat is a little homesick, or he has some unfinished business at home.  He may have a significant other he is involved with and wants to devote some time to the relationship.

Considering he owned Quebec, the only other reason would be he wants the confidence boost of being the best bowler in a particular circuit, but I'd bet it's not that.

After the round of 84...4 of the above mentioned are still alive...
Tim Criss (13th)
Steve Jaros (26th)
Brian Kretzer (Tie 31st)
Bob Learn Jr (Tie 31st)

Criss was in 38th coming into the World Championships...so I would say its safe to say he is exempt for next year.  The other three still have some work to do I believe.  Jaros was 45th, Kretzer 54th, Learn Jr 55th.

Here's how the rest above faired
Chris Johnson (42nd)
Bryon Smith (44th)
Eric Forkel (45th)
Brian LeClair (46th)
Bill Rowe (49th)
Hugh Miller (50th)
Richard Wolfe (52nd)
Dennis Horan Jr (60th)
DJ Archer (62nd)
Lonnie Waliczek (67th)
Shannon Buchan (69th)
Steve Wilson (75th)
Eugene McCune (78th)

I think CJ will hold on to an exempt spot, along with Steve Wilson.  Everyone else will more then likely to go through the Trials.
Go Jaros!

Jaros has moved up to 38th place (minimum) and above the cut line with his win in the round of 32. Unless a non-exempt bowler wins both this week and next, he looks pretty safe for next year.

He can also still pass a few guys if he keeps winning.
