Title: Commercials
Post by: tourpower on February 08, 2004, 05:45:03 AM
I am tired of watching bowling every week and seeing the same commercials over and over again. I was just seeing if everyone thought the same.

The chicken commercial with Bobby Labonte is getting on my nerves big time. Every frigging commercial break has it. I would never buy it for how obnoxious it is. Not to mention if I ever saw Bobby Labonte I might be tempted to crush a lead pipe into his head.

Why do we have to have some ugly girl do the interviews. Even The World Poker Tour has some hot girl on there doing interviews with the poker players. No wonder we only have viewers that know something about bowling.

What do looks have to do with conducting an interview? Although her first couple of bowling shows were a little rough, Holly is getting better at the Q&A snippets. She is NOT "ugly". It is a safe bet that she won't be doing a Penthouse/Playboy spread anytime soon, and you may find other women more attractive in your eye, but to criticize her for being "ugly" when her job is to conduct interviews is unfair and uncalled for. She's just another "lower tier" female sportscaster trying to work her way up the chain. Please judge her on the quality of her work, and not her lack of appeal to you. I have yet to hear anyone criticize Dave Ryan, Randy Pedersen, Brian Voss, Bo Burton, Marshall Holman, Earl Anthony, Billy Welu, Chris Schenkel, or Bud Palmer for being ugly! I have heard valid criticisms of their announcing/broadcastin/commentary abilities. Perhaps we should afford the female workers the same courtesy??

There are definately a few commercials during pba telecasts that are quite annoying.  The baby ruth commercials are just stereotypically dumb-not all bowlers look like that.  The bowlers paradise commercial is odd because they show the guy before shoes, then after acquiring his new shoes he is a pro bowler that forgets about the foul line.  Other than that, some geico ones are getting old and I'm with David K, if Bobby Labonte is around and he starts driving those chicken strips, sh!ts gonna hit the fan!

You know what I find the funniest? Whenever they have the Cambridge Credit Classic, they always show the two guys who own/run/represent Cambridge Credit Counseling. Those guys look like they belong on the set of the Sopranos. Kind of like Vinnie & Vito, the guys who come around to bust your head every time your 80% interest rate loan payment is a few days late. If they came to counsel me about my credit, I would run like hell!

Just get Tivo to record it and start watching 30 minutes after it starts.  You can just fast forward through all of them that way.

My REPLAY skips the commercials and I skip what Dave and Randy say. So no commercials and no annoying comments. Then record them on DVD with out them. It is just like a man I use to know when he watched baseball with the volume off. He knew what baseball was all about and did not need to hear or be told what was happening in the baseball field.

I second what Alaska Bill said about sponsors- the PBA is getting them aboard more and more each season- sure, it's not GM or any other monster corporation, but they are SPONSORS, which what the tour needed after Brunswick determined they could not keep the tour on life support forever (remember the gold pins and the Big B signs on late 90s telecasts??)
As for the commercials, the same ones over and over get old(Banquet I'm sure makes other products besides chicken patties(last year) and the Bobby Labonte/Joe Gibbs chicken strips- they advertise on my wife's soap opera(Days)such things as their "Homemade Bakes" and such.)
Odor Eaters doesn't make much else to advertise besides foot powder- and I distinctly remember the Baby Ruth guy being AWOL from Sunday's telecast(they had a different commercial)
