The USBC and the PBA
« on: August 16, 2009, 01:44:23 PM »
Hello everyone. I have been wondering this for a long time and would like to get feedback on this. If the USBC is trying to uphold the integrity of the sport, why don't they help out the PBA. It seems they are signing deals with espn for collegiate bowling and womens bowling, but not the PBA. The PBA is basically the only way we have bowling out to the public consistently. How hard is it to support the PBA. I know the idea has been thrown out there to up the sanction fee a dollar to give the PBA more money to bowl for, yet the USBC says they will lose members. But the USBC will up fees for their benefit and this is ok. I mean it is a friggin dollar. If people quit bowling for that then our sport has major major issues. I just feel that if the PBA can offer bigger prize funds then maybe the sport can grow. I feel that people can watch every other sport because they offer millions of dollars for wins, while the PBA offers 25,000 for a win. If the PBA can offer 60,000 for a win in every tournament I feel more people will watch bowling and bowl more.

thats why bowling is a game not a sport

would Tiger and golf be on prime time TV for $25,000 for 1st

or would US open tennis be on prime time TV for $25 K for 1st

it all about the money & sponsors

I don't see any bowlers with big sponsor money ect !!!

you have bowling on Sunday same time as football bad idea

I loved it on saturday if couldn't watch, taped it

but college football & basketball  on saturday killed it to

to win a PBA tournament should be at least $50,000 for 1st
and $10k for a TV 300 is a joke.

just some thoughts

I think it's a great idea...heck, I'd throw in an extra five bucks a year towards my USBC dues to see the prize fund for the PBA tournaments expanded.  I definitely think they need to up the prize for a televised 300 to at least $50,000...though I'd like to see it at $100,000.

Seems like one sponser would pony up the dough...everytime a pro bowler started off a game with five strikes the announcers would start talking about how "(insert company name here) will pay $100,000 for a televised 300 game!  Seems like the amount of exposure vs. the amount of cost would make sponsering something like this a no-brainer.

Rex,

Golf and Tennis get 25-30000 people on the course/stadium. Bowling can get 1000 people maybe at a venue? You cant compare. Those sports are generating a MILLION+ per day in attendance fees. You just can not created that type of attendance in bowling. The PGA generated around 4 million dollars in attendance fees this weekend. One weekend!! That is more than the entire tour prize fund! (and probably a century worth of gate receipts at bowling events!)

your right I forgot about that about only about 1000 attendance at $20
is not much
a stadium in tennis 25,000 at $20 adds up
no room in a aircondtioned bowling center
we watch TV for free there not much income from us.
the big company's  not going to pay as much unless people go see
it live

even the masters that was at miller park not that big crowd
and a chance of rain outside bowling not good.
arena bowling time you pay to built it, rent it not much left either.

well we will keep thinking
