From the PBA's official rules:

Player of the Year Award will be determined annually using the following point system
in which bowlers will be awarded points based on their finish in all PBA Tour events.

a. Points will be awarded to the top five (5) finishers in each step ladder
event and the top four (4) finishers in each single elimination event.

b. The PBA World Ranking Point List shall be used to break a tie.

Finishing Major Standard
Position Events Events
1 24 16
2 12 8
3 8 4
4 4 2
5 2 1

It's now looking like it's down to WRW and Scroggins. Since WRW will win a tie-breaker, Scroggins will need to win the tournament and WRW finish 3rd or lower for Scroggins to pass him by. Otherwise it's a lock for WRW since O'Neill is now officially done.

If Scroggins finishes 1st and WRW 2nd there is a points tie and WRW is the POY

Scroggins wins the tournament and WRW finishes lower then 2nd then Scroggins is POY

Scroggins finishes 2nd then WRW is the POY as there would be another tie

WRW has 56pts
Scroggins has 48pts

Pts for the show are 16, 8, 4 , 2 , 1

WRW is in 6th. He''s out.

Scroggins can do no worse than 2nd, since he is now the leader.
In 2nd, he gets 12 points passing WRW and O''Neill.
48 current + 12 for 2nd on Sunday = 60 points = POY!

If Scroggins wins or places 2nd, Scroggins is Player of the Year.
With a win: his 48 current points + 24 more = 72 points.

Even if Barnes wins and gets 24 more points, Scroggins still passes Barnes, WRW and O''Neill.
Who had Scroggy in the pool??
NO BODY!!

charlest, is this considered a major though?  I thought this wasn''t being considered a major.  If it isn''t a major, then it would be 16 8 4 2 1.

Can someone clarify if this is a major?

The Player of the Year race may come down to who makes the stepladder finals field Sunday in Baltimore. At stake are 16, 8, 4, 2 and 1 points, respectively, for the top five finishers. Heading into the Baltimore finale, Williams and O’Neill each had 56 Player of the Year points. Mike Scroggins was still in the race in third place with 48 points. Chris Barnes and Tom Smallwood were fourth and fifth with 32 and 29 points, respectively, but both were mathematically eliminated from contention in West Babylon.

If there is a tie for first place at the conclusion of the Lumber Liquidators Marathon Open, the player with the most Harry Smith Point Leader points will win the title. A three-way tie is possible if Williams and O’Neill both fail to make the finals, and Scroggins finishes second. If the tiebreaker comes into play, Williams is currently the overall points leader with 214,981. O’Neill is second with 201,519 and Scroggins is fifth with 173,546.

Hmmm. I don't know. Now that you make me think about it, I'd say not. Darn.

This marathon with 6 different oil patterns is a real nut buster. It SHOULD nb a Major. Who knows what the PBA is doing?

If 8 points for 2nd, that give Mike Scroggins - 56 (48 + 8). That's a 3 way tie for POY points.

If he wins, 48 + 12 = 60. Auto POY.

I'm pulling for Scroggins, he's waited a long time for something like PoY.

As for a 27-game rolloff across patterns, I think that's silly.  PoY is about long-term performance, not a single tournament.  WRW and Scroggins both performed consistently well all year long, as did O'Neill.  That's why the PBA gives out the PoY award.  Ultimately, if there's a tie for the PoY points, breaking it with the big points list is 100% reasonable.

(8 PM Eastern, Saturday, 4/3)
The PBA's summary says Scroggins can win 16 Player of the Year points if he wins the tournament. So it must not be considered a Major.

I Scroggins finishes second then Walter Ray is POY as he leads the PBA points list. PBA Website listed the PBA points as the tiebreaker.
