Most Boring Bowling
« on: February 24, 2008, 04:14:35 AM »
The topic says it all , the whole show was the most boring that I can ever remember watching, before someone says well these are pros and this was a very tough pattern I know all of that. How does one expect people to get interested enough in bowling with the program today, it sure will not bring in any new fans . I know before you say it I couldn't have done as well on that pattern as they did, however they are pros not me. This is not a put down on the pros it was just a boring show all around except for Frawley he did give us a little show

the death of professional bowling was when pros are winning on TV with games less than 210. people want to see the pros shooting 299 and half naked women, that would be a start to bringing back professional bowling

¡Viva la nación de Brunswick!

I agree 100% that that was part of the reason for the death of bowling.  You gotta keep in mind and everyone on this site, that there are WAY more casual bowlers than serious bowlers.  Yes, bowling is the most participated 'sport/game' in the history of the galaxy but it is made up of like 99% casual bowlers.  So you got one of these casual bowlers turn on the bowling and see a guy just win a championship with a 200 game.  They are going to be like 'wtf'.  I used to get that a lot when I took bowling serious and would have to defend and explain why the lanes are harder:

Me: "yeah the oil pattern is harder out there"
Casual Guy: "what you mean?"
Me: "you can't just hook it everywhere"
Casual Guy: "why"
Me: "because it is placed in spots to make the game harder"
Casual Guy: "why"
Me: (walks away and shakes head)

Bowling today is what MLB will be in like 5 years.  Steroids brought record crowds and huge stats.  Not saying steroids should be in bowling but they should remove the 'anti-steroid' that of ridiculous patterns, inconsistent lanes, and ridiculous requirements.  Since bowling is more about skill than luck when compared to the WSOP, I say have every tournament open.  Screw this exempt crap.  You wanna know the first blow to the PBA?  It was the EXEMPT PLAN!!!!!!!

To solve the money issue:  Make all tournaments open tournaments with lower entry fees and allow like 1000 bowlers to enter.  Something like $50 x 1000 bowlers is what? $50,000.  That makes up almost 1/3 of their weekly $180,000 prize pool.  Allow another 1000 bowlers to enter and you got yourself $100,000.  With sponsors, ads, and other revenue from memberships, you should be able to have a weekly $500,000 prize pool.  I mean who do they have doing the financial planning there?  HIRE ME!!!!! I doubled the production of an automotive plant in one summer when I was only 21!!!

To solve the ratings issue:  Add GIRLS!!!!!!!!!! JESUS CHRIST!  Get rid of those two losers on there.  Have Jeanette Lee be a host and another hot chick not related to bowling.  Have college bowlers telecast the show.  Get better camera angles.  Change the game!!!  I mean, they changed the game in NBA (3 point shot, etc.)  They changed it in MLB (smaller fields, more HR's).  Get a better time slot!  Encourage actions like cussing and stuff.  I know when I don't bowl good I am not silent, so why mute the bowlers.  They are only human?!!

The PBA isn't dead.  The minds behind the PBA, those that are old and don't know any better, those that grew up before Generation X and Y, those that are still against the new technology breaking the game, those that refuse to change from their old ways, --- those are dead.

This is basic and the PBA just makes it way too complicated.  Raising revenue is my middle name!!

Hey, I don't see a problem with a low scoring tournament (especially a major) every now and then.  It isn't like this every week.

Look at who are the ones complaining, two of the biggest maroons on these boards, Carl And Necromance. These guys couldn't shoot 250 if you gave 200 pins handicap on these shots. The expect these guys to shoot 270+ every game, but then complain cause of all the strikes. They just like to hear themselves talk, ignore them and they will go away.

My take on the show was this:
Frawly was very nervous, who wouldn't be, your first time on TV in the US at the World Championships. His bowling throught he week proved he deserved to be there and if he were to bowl on tour more, I bet you'd see him on TV a few times a year.
Duke showed guts and no matter how much he played it down, this was for his bowling life. He needed a good showing in this event to make it into the exempt field for next season. How many of us can say thay we could have performed as well under those conditions? Not to mention the cold/flu on top of it.
WRW has had bad ball reactions for last few weeks, on TV anyway. Some of it could be the fact that every knows he will be playing up the outside and they use the dry boards he created to their advantage, creating a different look then WRW expects. And in a one game match, a few frames of uncertainty is all it could take to give your opponent an edge.
Shafer, another close finish in a major. I think he needed to watch the Duke-WRW match and see the dry they created. Maybe a move a few boards to the right and bank it off that bumper, might have worked better then playing inside.

All in all a great show for human drama behind the bowling. Frawly standing up for the international amatuers (some of the best bowlers in the world aren't PBA pros), Duke's story, Shafer trying again, etc.

at the professional level of any sport( including bowling )the main objective is to win. whether it's by a little or a lot a win is the goal.

I thought this past Sunday's show was fraught with uncertainty, certainly when pondering who the prevalent bowler might be on such a tough shot.

In the end, one of the most exceptionally talented bowlers ever came through in dramatic fashion.

Coughing, heavy breathing, tears in eyes, and a salvaged career--can't get any better than that.

It was a show full of high excitement, and I thoroughly enjoyed!

Like one of the other posters said by the fifth frame of every game you knew who was going to win . I know it was a tuff shot but there sure was a lack of good shot making out there by most of them and before you scream I'm not a pro to me it was boring because there was no competition not because it was low scoring. I'm glad Duke won he seems like a great guy I'm happy for him.

Boring is in the eye of the beholder.  I actually liked the telecast because I liked the bowlers who were in it.  It was tough conditions out there & any given frame any bowler could've split or struck.  To me it was fun to watch.

*Sarcasm On*
Whoever thought this week was boring might as well not even bother watching the US Open coming up.  Scores are gonna be low for that one too...

Yeah, I got a few friends in it.  Last year one placed just outside the final cut.  I'd go if I had more vacation at my job.
