Did he actually say that?  I listened to one of the interviews yesterday and I can't recall him saying that but in other interviews it's quite possible.  From what I recall, the name change was to make him more unique.  He brought up richard wolfe as one example.

It was distinctly stated somewhere, by "Dick" himself, that the name change was due to him now being a father and wanting to project a more fatherly, mature image.

 

 It had NOTHING to do with respect for Dick Weber.

i found and watched what dick said... im glad he said what was on his mind.. h e l l id be HAPPY too if i just won a pba tourny and 50K!!
some of you ppl want these guys to act like politics and ALWAYS say the "right" thing on tv... WTF??!?
what ever happend to freedom of speech.?!!?!!  this is amerika ppl!!  hahaha

i personally think his "new" name fits him perfectly. i used to bowl with richie in a few tourneys

here and there, and he always came off as a prick, treated people with little to no respect and had a filthy mouth. i figured by now hed be more grown up but it doesnt seem so.
