Did I miss something about the new format?
« on: November 03, 2006, 12:56:30 PM »
I know that the PBA changed the format some this year. I guess I missed something - is there no more round of 8?

Is what I see on the PBA site the finish for the tournament (except the show)??

http://www.pba.com/livescoring/LiveScoring.aspx

Does this mean
Wes Malott
Tony Reyes
Parker Bohn III
Mike Edwards
Mike Scroggins

Are on the show???

It clearly states that there are 9 more games among the top 16 and then they cut to the top 5 for the finals.

Ok, I guess that's a lot different, then! I guess I'll see how it plays out this year.

The good news is that the show is back to 4 games!

Only some events will have the round robin format.  I believe the number is 6 or 7.  The rest will use the older format.  Looks like the party is back at Scroggins' for another season.

The RR tournaments aren't quite the old-style 24-game round-robin match play tourneys of old.  They only do 9 games in the Round of 32, then 9 more in the round of 16.  Not everyone bowls everyone else, which seems weird, and if you make it to the Round of 16, you may end up bowling a few people more than once, even more than twice with position rounds.  Supposedly, they've created the brackets for match play so that there are "meaningful" matches, whatever that means.

According to the Taylor Lanes web site (who is hosting the tourney), at 9 am this morning there is the President's Cup (or something like that) that occurs before all the Pro-Am bowling.  However, the final 5 are set!
