Do opponents treat Barnes differently.
« on: January 27, 2008, 11:43:16 AM »
Let me start and say congrats to Haugen. But there is no way that he should of won that match. He hung in there and came back and won the match. My question is this. If Walter Ray had a 50 pin lead, do you think Haugen would tell himself it's Walter and I am done so therefore kinda mail it in mentally?

Since he was going against Barnes, do you think he said he had a chance since it was Barnes so therefore showed that heart and mental fortitude and stayed in the game?

This is where to me the elite players crush their opponent mentally. I just think Barnes is not considered an elite and bowlers are not too down if Barnes takes a lead, they feel he will screw up and they have a chance.

You make a good point... but it doesn't stop barnes from crushing the field prior to sunday. Which he does regularly.

I think Barnes is very much considered an elite bowler by his peers. He has had his share of problems winning matches on TV so I'm sure that it's in the back of the minds of the guys who bowl him.

I was thinking this very thing today and was going to post the same thing pretty much and decided not to.

I wanted to wait if someone else had the thought to bring it up and now that it has I would say yes.

I bowled SSJBA and I had a kid tell me he felt he could bowl the world but when he bowled me he was scared shi*less. He said he didnt know why, but thats just how he felt. It came down to stepladder finals and he won 3 matches then had to bowl me and fell apart. I could literally see the kid shaking and I was telling him not to worry to just bowl his game and I was really helping him out the whole time as well. I then preceeded to pick up a 3-6-7-10 to pull ahead and that just blew the air out of his bubble.

Back to the original question, yes I think that happened.

I dont think so at all! Everyone keeps saying that Haugen did this amazing job of not giving up... he DID give up! You look at his face in the 5-6th frame, he thaught it was over! He got himself a double because he is a pro bowler, not because he didn't give up, more along the lines of he was going for pride, and besides do you stop atleast trying to strike when you bowl ever?? THEN when Barnes threw the 10 pin suddenly Haugen knew he was back in, he bowled a clutch series of strikes and did a great job in the end and won. Mad props to Haugen for clutch bowling, but even he relizes he was lucky as HELL!

Lucky? Probably not anymore.
Barnes on TV is like Weber vs WRW, chances are very high something bad is going to happen. Not that any rational person wants something bad to happen; it's just going to happen. It's just like waiting for the other shoe to fall.

I think both Barnes and Weber need virtually a 300 to insure a win, at this point in time.
