Post by: Danes07 on June 19, 2009, 12:08:01 PM: I don't think that many of the players will agree to it. They have enough to worry about without having to have something in theire ear and the possibility that they might be hearing sounds directly in their in mid approach.

I would be very surprised if they got a handful of players to even consider wearing one.

Post by: on June 19, 2009, 01:34:12 PM: It sounds like another distraction to me. These guys need a certain "tunnel vision" while competing under the lights and shouldn't have to worry about what the announcers are saying. Dumb idea in my opinion.

These guys are bowling to pay their bills and feed their families out there and I'm sure they don't need another distraction like an earpiece. The microphone already causes alot of problems itself..

What are they going to ask somebody? Hi Wes, did you think you deserved that blowout 7-10 split the last frame and what are you going to do to have it not happen again??

Come on, seriously.. I think its a bad idea..

Post by: BowlerKidR on June 19, 2009, 09:27:14 PM: I actually spoke to one of the Touring Professionals about this. They used this on the PBA GEICO Team Shootout this year. Being that this was a "fun" event, both myself and the PBA Member agreed that it was ok for this event. Outside of this type of event, at an actual tournament event, they should not have the earpiece.

The ESPN guys have a chance to interview the players pre/post match, which should allot them plenty of time to get their questions in. These guys are pro's out there, they will remember their mistakes or the adjustments they did/should have made at the end of their match, which is, IMO, the correct time to be discussing it with them.

I was at the Geico Shoot Out and I can attest to the fact that the pro's would be up on the approach, set to get into their stance, and then ESPN (or the PBA, not sure which) would decide to tell them to hold up and have a conversation. This really messes with the flow of the bowlers. If they are going to do this, they should be giving the bowler fair warning to when the questions will come, like before they get up to prep for the next shot.

Post by: Walking E on July 06, 2009, 05:07:16 PM: Now that I've seen it in action on the team shootout, I don't think it's such a bad idea. I'm just not sure how the logistics will work, and I'm not really sure there's a good time to break in with a question.
Nevertheless, I can see the value in asking someone who, for instance, had just thrown 2 or 3 straight shots through the nose what kind of adjustment they plan to make on their next shot. Maybe it's something that can be done only at the commercial break. In any case, I think it would be a fascinating insight into what the bowlers are thinking.
