Title: Edwards
Post by: tonybowls on February 16, 2007, 01:59:14 PM
Nice to see that he has made another show. What kind of chance does he really have on Sunday?

I would say very little.  I say this not because I think he is bad but because of the format.  However, he better not bowl like Brad Angelo did and look like some noob on TV.  He has the whole right lane to himself.  Anything is possible on Sunday.  He can use the right to his advantage or he can lose to 1 of 4 lefties.

Current arsenal:
Storm X-Factor Vertigo
Storm Trauma ER
Storm Recharge
Ebonite Vortex Afterburner
Columbia 300 Messenger Ti
Storm Hit Blue Pearl
Ebonite 14 Fun Ball
Current Average: 203.470
The Vertigo hits so hard that pins on adjacent lanes sometimes fall - FACT.

Edwards....slim to none to win. This guy is one of those bowlers that is way too good to only have the 1 title. Kind of like Ritchie Wolfe is too good not having any.
Everytime he makes a show he generally shoots a good first game or starts out well. Then he will either throw a bad shot, get a bad tap or a split and will lose. No matter how well he seems to do his opponent always seems to bowl better.

The only thing he gots going for him is he's going against 4 lefties. Going up the ladder that far down is very difficult and I don't see how he could possibly get past Jason Couch or Patrick Allen. But I think his chances are ate at least decent against Bohn and Kalfas. Bohn isn't exactly that great and consistant on tv anymore and this will be Riga's first tv show.

I agree with Brian.....Slim to none.....I've known Edwards for a long time and for what ever reason, he always seems to under perform (choke?) when the pressure mounts. For as good as he appears at times, he has made very few shows during his lifetime on the tour.

As much as I root for Mr. "Cherokee Chucktau," even if he gets past the first 2 matches, he has to go against Couch who's on fire @ the moment.  I give him 10 to 1 odds..

Patrick Allen will only have to bowl 1 match. He rarley looses in a first match and generally comes out firing. As much as alot of people would love to see Edwards run the table, seeing a Allen-Couch rematch would be just as awesome as I think Patrick Allen will beat Couch if they face each other the next time.

I've been watching Edwards on TV for years, and it seems as if the 4-9 split is always his undoing on TV Finals day. Can't recall who it was against, might have been Aulby, on a Saturday ABC show back in the day, and all Mike needed was a mark to win the title. He got up in the 10th, first shot, 4-9. Doesn't convert, and loses the tourney. Some bad breaks on TV but, it's always a 4-9 split with him...Would love to see him win one before seasons end....

That was against near retired Mike Durbin at the famous Forum Lanes in Grand Prarie, TX 1985. Edwards handed him the title. That particular strike ball was one of the worst breaks I've ever seen. Watched it in slow motion several times and it should have been 10 in the pit.
