Believe it or not high scoring tournaments are very stressful to the entrants,...for example Amleto averaging 240 and not getting a sniff..
What goes through your mind is you're throwing 8-9 strikes a game and that ain't enough,..and where can I get that one more strike...one little tweak, but where or what is it...People look at scoring feasts as non-challenging,..NOT TRUE,..in a shoot-out your margin for error is miniscule, when you have to strike every shot to stay in the hunt,..you mind is on fire. There's no room for second guessing. I hear comments that the lanes are easy,..and the pros should be bowling on a tougher condition,..in their mind this is a tough condition because there is no room for error to get to the top. You shoot 240 and back-up to the leaders...mind-boggleing but true. When every shot has to be a strike the conditions are in fact tough to compete,...just ask all the guys at bottom...jim

Jim...I understand your post completely.....but it doesn't hide the fact that Eugene McCune is in first place with an average of 260 ?!?!? That's an easy shot...it's scoreable......

now......how is it competition wise.....YES you're right....it's NOT easy in that regard ......but ...getting the ball to the hole..and scoring....yes...that's easy

getting that one extra strike per game isnt always about tweaking shots to find extra carry.  at that point, when youre carrying 10 times a game, there is nothing you should have to tweak in order to carry an extra shot.  it all comes tdown to who gets a lucky break here and there, and who doesnt.  of course ball reaction affects carry, and im sure that the guys at the top have incredible ball reactions with whatever theyre throwing, but you cant possibly tell me that there is that much of a difference between guys averaging 260 and 240...when you leave a 9 count sandwiched by 4 strikes on each side, its going to hurt cost alot more pins than when youre grinding it out and only get 3 strikes instead of 4.  if someone else carries that 9 count shot, now theyre shooting for 300 instead of 279...21 pin difference.  the mentality is extremely tough, but when an amateur whos never bowled on a pba shot before can average that high, you cant tell me that such a miniscule adjustment could make a difference.
