Are you people talking about the same Nelson Burton, Jr. and Chris Schenkle that I have on tape from the 90's? Man, I almost have to hit the mute button every time I go back and watch those tapes. Bo would always call for high scoring conditions and was usually wrong. Chris Schenkle always said "powerful strike" every time someone knocked down all 10, no matter what it looked like.
I should play a couple of the matches I have on hand and write down excerpts of their incredibly stupid displays of bowling announcing.
Mike Durbin and Denny Schriener had the greatest degree of decent analysis I ever saw on televised bowling. They would talk about the bowlers and their adjustments, their approach, and other relevant details. Often Denny would ask a question and Mike would respond from the angle of the experienced pro. One of my favorite tapes is PDW's win at the LaMode Classic back in the early 90's with Mike & Denny.
And Durbin's "Average Builders" was actually helpful, vs. Bo Burton always starting his bowling tips with, "As we get older..." Did he think the only people who watched bowling on TV were a bunch of old farts who were concerned with how to keep their arthritic hands comfortable while bowling??
As for Randy and the other dink whose name I don't know, once again, the mute button is looking awful tempting.
