ESPN why cant you focus the cameras on the shots?
« on: January 13, 2013, 05:03:18 PM »
Too much facing the bowlers and not enough of the actual shot. seemed like almost always showing the shot 3/4 the way down the lane. Quite annoying.

Thats annoying? they replay the same once or twice. The ball don't make a move until 3/4 of the way down the lane. What is so interesting about watching a bowling ball slide through oil?

Watch the show and enjoy it, be happy it is even on tv the way things have gone the last few years. If that is the only complaint the show is pretty good.

It is pretty bad. I love watching the last 10 feet only with the ball barely visible on the bottom of the screen because of the camera and the score scroll at the bottom. You might as well be listening to the telecast on the radio......

Once again every shot is replayed what difference does it make? The ball don't do anything but slide the first 3/4 of the lane anyway. I see the ball and shot fine on my t.v. what are you guys watching on a 12 inch t.v.?

Well, I enjoy watching the release, the loft if any and the amount of hand/tilt a bowler is trying to use. Even on most of the replays yesterday they were skipping that part. Sorry if that annoys you and you only need to see the turn at the end. To each his own.
Todd.

I want to see the entire shot from foul line to pin deck because that's how I see it when I am actually bowling. I even want the cameras positioned straight behind the bowler so that I can really see the line that they are playing (the side angle misses a lot of detail in that regard, though the camera placement is better for the World Series than it usually is for other events). Watching the ball fly through the pindeck from the back angle isn't usually interesting or even informative for me, though at times it is enlightening to watch (like on a split or on Belmo's messenger 10 that didn't fall against Norton).

You know your right, they did replay some shots and still didn't show most of the ball going down the lane. It is like watching any other sport on tv I guess, who cares what the ball does the first 3/4 of the way just show the last 1/4 of home runs, touchdowns, anything in golf, basketball, or whatever sport you enjoy because the first 3/4 really doesn't matter.

It is like the camera crew has not filmed bowling before and gives some of the worst views of what is happening.

I think I know what the OP means.  They do kind of screw up the look of the trajectory.  Part of the excitement of seeing the shot from behind is seeing when a bowler misses the hit at the bottom, pulls it slightly, misses wide off the hand and then seeing if/what the ball will do.   Makes it even more interesting when they throw it well and you see the ball hit the transition and do something crazy.  The backwards to 3/4 to backwards look doesn't give you that great of a look at what they're actually playing.  It makes matters worse when they try to show you the replay, then quickly pan back for the bowler's spare shot.

I will say, they have gotten better with the variety of angles, especially when lefties make the show and the angles are much better for the most part.  I do hope that on the "important shots" and when it comes down to the last shot that a single premium angle is shown.  Like that floating 3/4 over the shoulder view for the shot.
