Title: Etonic Championship
Post by: scotts33 on November 12, 2006, 01:45:16 AM
Who do you like?  My picks.  I like the way Kent is rolling the ball it will be a tough condition.  Bet he uses a No Mercy.....just a guess.

Doug Kent vs. Steve Jaros -----> Kent

Pete Weber vs. Chris Loschetter ----> Weber

Winner ----> Kent

Weber - Special Agent (1st match)
Loschetter - Radical Inferno?, Awesome Revs, Classic Zone (1st match)

Would be interesting to see Chris bowl outside of the lights of TV.  He's an exempt bowler, but he sure doesn't show that on TV.

What lane condition is this again? Also, why wouldn't Kent, be using the "No Mercy" and why wouldn't Jaros, be using the "Thresehold"? The line that they are playing, would need something that finishes stronger...wouldn't they? This is Pete's game, but he's using an "Agent" as well.

This is the Shark pattern.

I thought Chris threw the ball well, I think he had the second best look, but that Radical looked TERRIBLE. If he had used a different ball we might be watching a different final.

Boy DRev, you should have been there to be Kent's coach.  I bet he would have wanted you there to give him the ball switches rather than the Hammer reps!

HUh?????? not from what I've seen with my own eyes.with the kind of a/r Kent puts on a ball the NO MERCY would have been a monster on this pattern.

I suppose you didn't see him throw it the first frame of the first match?  It barely hit the head pin.  C'mon guys.

You guys have to realize that there was a ton of volume this week, forcing guys to use a lot more surface than normal. I was using a Special with 500 grit on it and i've never used that much surface IN MY LIFE !!! All that did was blow a hole up in the pattern way to fast and force everybody left. The problem was the hook spot never developed downlane.

You cant say that "ball x" has a ton of recovery, because any ball that hits friction will hook. There wasnt much friction downlane this week so what you would normally see didnt really come into play. If Steve went to his Threshold, it would have hooked in his backswing. It wasnt Chris that made the Radical look bad, it was the pattern.

Another problem was that the TV pair wasnt used all week. The pattern was run at least 7 times during the week for the rest of the center, but the end where the set was probably only got run a couple of times. This had a lot to do with the somewhat lower scores on the show

Congrats to Pete though, he bowled great today

I was watching Chris throw the Radical.  I turned to my wife and said, "He needs to be throwing something else..."  It just didn't have it down the lane.  I was thinking he should have been using a Scorchin, the ZC looked like a good choice.

I was curious as to why Kent and Jaros were playing so deep with equipment that wouldn't finish.  Polished balls, and not each companies strongest, thrown very slow hoping for a few boards of hook at 55'.  Surely there must have been a better angle of attack for those without Weber's release?  I was glad to see Kent move right his second game.  I know they said you couldn't get it right of 7 or 8, but at least he tried something that might have given him a better look than his first game.  He finally moved back left with a stronger ball.  He had a good look on the left where the ball return wasn't in his way.  The Hawg Zilla wanted to hook early on the right where he had to alter his approach.

You're not supposed to give the pocket away when the pattern is long or the lanes are real wet or tight.  Wouldn't a tighter line closer to the 3rd or 4th arrow make more sense than starting at the 6th and struggling?  Obviously these guys know what they are doing, but I'd like to get a better explanation as to their decisions.

How about some lane play analysis from from knowledgeable players?  Hopefully some guys with at least some regional experience will chime in.

Ah, thanks Jeff.

Why couldn't you use something strong with some surface to start with to blow a small hole in the pattern, then switch to something weaker and bounce it off the worn spot near the break point?

I'm sure that all 4 guys did that in the practice session before the show, but it doesnt take long when you're using a lot of surface. We saw certain guys using 180 grit this week......yes, you read that right. In my opinion you cant put that much volume on the shark pattern after you've lengthened it by a foot and taken away all of the reverse oil.

In my match against Fagan, we both started around 12-15 and migrated left from there. He was able to get farther left than me because of his tilt. I finally had to put the Special Agents away and go to a regular Agent, but it was too little too late. We broke down the pair pretty nice and our scores reflected it

i attended the finals, kent had the best look through about the first five frames of his first match...then he was completely lost, he was switching between a no mercy and a black widow, he also had a vibe he was throwing in pract.  Pete had a good look in his first match, but an even better look in the final match.  Pete had two Secret Agents.  Congrats to Pete

I THOUGHT I saw him with a white pinned black ball in his hand at one point in time...  But on another shot I thought I saw a HART marking on a ball he was using and it turned out to be the x-hole on one of the BW's.

i know for a fact he was throwing a No Mercy during the practice and am pretty sure he threw it during the TV portion, but seats were a little too far down the lane to be able to read what the ball said, hope this helps a little

bowl me over,

I agree, I recorded the show and just went back and he used the black widow and the hawg zilla on TV> I never saw him throw the No Mercy.. I could have missed it but the No Mercy logo is white and would have been easy to see unless he darkened it..

The way he holds his ball, you could clearly see the logo everytime he threw the ball..

Randy even mentioned the first game that he ws using 2 black widows, 1 shiny on one lane and a dull one on the other..
--------------------
One day when I grow up I hope to be able to throw the ball AND carry as good as g_thing!!

I just replayed the show and watched carefully, his first shot was with the Black Widow they only show it for a split second but if you pause it,you can see the huge Widow symbol. He first used a Widow that was a little shiner, then switched to a Widow with some more surface, before switching to the Zilla halfway through the finals against Weber.

I know why you thought the first ball was a no mercy.the logo was white but it was a widow, must of been from sanding, polishing the cover.at first I thought it was a no mercy too untill I noticed the spider.

I live in a region where half the guys up with are national guys .. Bowling in the southwest region is hard .. and This guys break down the lanes the way they are supposed too! If tbey had long oil with bad push ... it's ugly! With that said .. I have seen Jeef Bowl and he is a stud .. He belongs out there and his talks match mine.

I have all the respect for the pros guys! I just wanted to say though, the telecast today looked alittle lopsided. What I mean is, PDW had the best look on TV today. Both games he had it going for him!

Thoughts:
PDW - Unstoppable and had the best look in my opinion!
Kent - Dude can shoot spares, but he was fishing today. I felt if he would've used the Hawgzilla on the left lane and Black Widow on the right lane that it might've worked better for him. He found the pocket with the Hawgzilla on the left lane but the right lane overhooked for him using it. I also noticed he was deep the first game and tried playing direct a few times in the title match as well. Dougie Fresh got it going on though. 1 title and 2 tv shows!
Jaros - I was very surprised that he didn't score well today. Looked like he struggled finding the pocket and when he actually did, the hits were weak although he did find the hole a few times against Kent.
Loschetter - When this kid gets the nerves out of his system on TV, he is going to be very tough. The last two appearances though he hasn't scored very well and the equipment just hasn't matched up to his style and the pattern. I remember him being on TV the first time at the World Championship, he looked calmer and more relaxed than he did today and in the Dick Weber Open last year.

Okay, these are just my thoughts and everything is open to debate and all opinions posted are fully respected by me. God Bless You All and have a great week!
