I'm not sure I like the format but an interesting concept.

The guys who are already exempt and are out there will probably bowl in it.

The guys who are eligible and bowling the PTQ’s will probably bowl in it.

The guys eligible and geographically close will probably bowl in it.

I know of at least one who probably will not. Has gotten a job and says he is retired.

It will be interesting to see how many of the 76 eligible decide to bowl.

I’m admittedly not much of a gambler but to travel across the country to bowl for a winner take all event, particularly in a best ball format, would seem like throwing money down a hole.

Seems like an interesting format, and it'll add some variety to the season.  It does seem a lot like holding out a carrot with "Career" written on it.  "Come and get it, boy!  Oops, you missed.  Hahaha.  Try again.  Oooh, missed.  Try again."  Like a pair of bullies who took a ball from some poor kid and playing keep-away.  Or Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football.

The idea of exemptions sounds like it would keep the pressure on to perform week-in and week-out, making bowling more exciting.  But we don't see that.  We see four guys on TV for an hour and a half.  By that time, they're thinking "title", not "exemption".  Instead, they tell bowlers like Steve Hoskins, Brian Goebel, Bob Learn, Randy Pedersen, and Lonnie Waliczek that they aren't welcome anymore because they had a bad year.  They'd kick Pete Weber out too, except that he won two years ago.

Really, how many people from last season that made the TV show aren't exempt now?  Pratt, Girard, and Liz Johnson?  Three?

quote:
“With ESPN televising the event on Christmas Day, ‘The Final Frame’ will provide tremendous exposure for the PBA while showcasing a unique field and interesting format,” said PBA Commissioner and CEO Fred Schreyer.

I'll believe the Christmas Day numbers when I see them.

Should the PBA be playing with players careers like this?

That's exactly what it sounds like.  This is pretty stupid.  A guy who isn't exempt can step up, wrap a ten pin then pack up his stuff and go back to the life of not being exempt again.  What a slap in the face.

Cheesy, cheap attempt at publicity at the expense of bowlers, totally lacking in class.

on the other side, they couldn't just not offered these guys another chance to earn an exemption....

at least they are getting a last chance to earn one before seasons end..
