Title: F bomb...
Post by: snowgimp on November 16, 2008, 04:41:18 AM
Sound to anyone else like after Rash picked up the wash out he dropped it right into mic?  I rewound it on DVR and I'm pretty sure it was what it was.

Who cares?  People cuss in every sport.  Ever been to an NBA game? Or an NFL game?  I am sure the lineman during a football game are just chatting about the economy and where they are going to have a picnic in the evening.

I wondered if anyone else caught that.  It was quick, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was.

If so, he can/may/will be fined for that, I am pretty sure.

Just makin' some discussion dude.  And yes, I have been to such games and I know that bowlers can be great with the colors...but when it makes TV RIGHT into mic it's something that I laugh at.

I think he should be fined a hefty sum.......say 25% of his purse. I really think that Rash, although obviously very talented, has some serious issues with brain power. His balks and now the F-Bomb on national TV leaves me to believe he is not very strong betwen the ears. It was something that a true role model of the sport (such as Norm Duke, Chris Barnes) would never do.

LOL!  You all are acting like he got into a fight with another bowler.  They are already making next to nothing.  So take 25% of that next to nothing is justice? LOL!  He already got fined again by that stupid balking rule today again.  Last time he got fined $2100.  Seems like people just can't take the skills of Rash or are jealous.

Or we both know bowlers aren't spirtual priests disguised as bowlers and will act human like anyone that is competitive in bowling or any other sport would.  For a bowler to just smile after every shot and clap his hands, he can find another team to be on.  I want winners, not cruisers through life.

When you are sitting on the couch watching the PBA with your granddaughters and grandson like we do quite often it is a big deal when a punk like Rash unloads the F-bomb. Next you'll be suggesting that the youth bowlers don't watch the telecast?

I suppose being brought up the correct way won't have much of an affect then, they are going to use the F-bomb no matter what then correct? It is a question of right and wrong and face it Rash was wrong.

All I can think of is that it's sad that some of you have nothing better to do than criticize...He said it under his breath. Get off your holier than thou pedestal and realize that your granddaughter and grandson have many other things that are going to effect them in the coming years, as well as to worry about. If Sean dropping an F-bomb is the worst they ever hear, they should count their blessings.

It's amazing how overboard a person will go when they do not like someone.

Ric you are right they have many things ahead of them in life that are bad, and they surely do not need to hear Rash cussing while watching a game they love on TV. I have no feelings one way or the other on Rash except that he is a punk for using the F word on TV, if you want to sit here and justify cussing then go ahead it is all about morals and obviously you have just shown yours in justifying it.

Kenny,

That don't *have* to use it, that's the point.

It does not justify it any any way, shape, or form.  FCC rules are FCC rules - they say you can't then you can't.  The pros are well aware of that, and they (should) know better.  The same with the shot clock.  Rash knew about that too, and broke the rule.

Every pro curses, get over it. And standards? It's a word, big deal. It obviously reflected what he was feeling at the moment, why should he sugarcote his thoughts so some anal retentives are satisfied that their classy pro held up some mythical standard fantasy?
Title: Re: F bomb...
Post by: dechrist on November 16, 2008, 05:04:36 PM
You missed my point. FCC rules say you can't.  Besides, I think it is a PBA rule also, so get over yourself.
Title: Re: F bomb...
Post by: KennyRambo on November 16, 2008, 05:12:54 PM
Do they fine Tiger Woods when he drops an F-bomb? What about pro football? Where's the outrage there? Why doesn't the FCC do something about that? They let it go, they let late night comedy central go, and they've been letting certains go on regular cable for years now. Why change that for bowling?

If it's that big of a deal, why not just implement a 2 second delay and someone blocking out the sound when they curse? That way everyone could be happy. The pros could express themselves and the happy shalappys wouldn't get pudding in their ear.

Ya, I have no morals, because you think I am condoning what Sean did. I do not care, I have other things to concern myself with. It is trivial to say the least and it is the stone & glass house 'theory'. People on forums have nothing better to do than criticize others. That is my point. It is amazing how many things we can find 'wrong' in others.

LOL Kenny for the most part I agree with you.

And yes they do fine Tiger when he cusses.. Not like it's a big deal to him lol..Him wearing the Nike Swoosh probably covers a years worth of fines in 5 minutes for him..

Everyone cusses folks..and who cares what the FCC says what can or can't be said on Television..they like all people who are here to "protect decency" in a public domain can go suck a left nut..

Opps probably shouldn't have said it that way.

Man everyone is getting their panties up in a bunch over cuss words.  What is the world coming to? LOL.  You know it is going to hell when I gotta quote Barry Bonds LOL:

"All of you lied. All of you have said something wrong. All of you have dirt. When your closet's clean, then come clean somebody else's, but clean your's first"

What a guy!

Anyways, cussing like video games and movies are overrated and only act as scapegoats as to what is wrong with this country.  Look at other countries like Japan.  They got 10x sicker movies, crazy violent games, and disgusting tv shows, but you don't see 1/10th the problems there that we have here.  I grew up in DC and still came out on top.  Cussing is one of the least of the problems we need to worry about.  We should instead worry how to get our school systems on par with rest of the world because right now it is a complete joke.

Rash should not have dropped the f-bomb on TV. Even if it doesn't bother you, it bothers someone else. It's a black mark to the sportsmanship involved in the game, and it doesn't make the sponsors all to happy either. If there weren't rules against it and people just did it willy-nilly, the sponsorships from a lot of companies would be dropped.

This is a Professional Bowlers' Association...and it that is the key phrase: PROFESSIONAL BOWLERS. This is a professional event, and should be treated professionally. Rash should be fined. 25% is a huge amount, and a bit ridiculous.

I will say this: the f-bombing and various other curse words have been used more frequently as of late, and it's getting stupid. They need to stop that now, before it gets any more out of hand.

All that being said: Do I use it? Heck Yes. But I try not to use it when I'm being watched close enough for it to reach anyone else's ears...especially underaged kids.

Do we all use it? Mostly. Should we? That's up to personal preference. Is it necessary? No. Do the rules need to apply to everyone? Yes sports professionals included.

If anything get mad at the PBA for not at least running the show on a minute delay to censor any foul language, it's not incredibly difficult to accomplish. Sure, he shouldn't have said the word, but I'm not gonna say he should be docked 1/4 of his pay because of a reaction to his bowling that should've been censored anyway.

It shouldn't be censored in my opinion it shouldn't have to be censored. Those guys have all week to swear. They can bowl a few matches on TV without swearing.

Plus, I believe being mic'd up is optional? If this is the case, just say no to the mic.

Which is why they have rules and fines against it. That is a pre-emptive measure to try and keep bowlers from swearing. If you censor, you give them more reason to not watch their mouths.

I mean, you should still fine them, but just use the censor to ensure that the viewing audience doesn't hear the words. I wouldn't go to the extreme of 1/4 of the bowler's check, but whatever the default fine is, do that.

I'm more or less just saying it's dumb the word got through to the audience, not that they shouldn't be penalized for violating the rules.

Ah, then yes, I agree. I don't have a problem with censoring. Although, I do have a problem with *beep*. That's a little obvious. Just silence it. Lose sound for half a second, then come back like there was a sound glitch.

It doesn't need to be announced that someone swore.

with professionals dropping f-bombs it drives away sponsors and viewers, in turn means even less of a payout on tour. we are all humans and mistakes happen but the pros know they are on television and should know better. i like the delay someone brought up and a fine i am sure he will get.

What Sean rash said was inappropriate. If you do not agree with that then by all means bring back kikking the ball returns, pounding the telescore and flipping the bird at single pins left up! These are suppose to be proffessionals, not just in bowling performance but in edicate , setting an example to all bowlers out of RESPECT for the SPORT...

His balks and now the F-Bomb on national TV leaves me to believe he is not very strong betwen the ears. It was something that a true role model of the sport (such as Norm Duke, Chris Barnes) would never do.

Then maybe you should switch the channel off of the NFL game when the network gives the close up of the head coach who just had a BS call go against his team.  Or maybe switch the channel when an NBA player gets a technical and both he and the head coach give the referee an earful.  Maybe they should turn the mike off when some prissy tennis player is out of challenges and thinks the linesman has made a bad call.

These athletes are under high pressure in tense situations against other performers who at the highest level, bring it week in and week out, something we as non-"pros" know absolutely nothing about.

So, please don't hurt your knees getting down from your high horse.

When I get kids, I am going to show them everything the world has to offer.  The problem with this country is that kids get sheltered too much and then when they see something 'NORMAL' they go crazy and get into drugs, sex, and violence because it is all a shock to them.  "Gee daddy! Off topic - reminds me of my ice hockey teammate who came from a deeply religious family. Shattered his knee during a game, heard the sick snap all the way across the ice. The paramedics had to cut his equipment away from him. Obviously, this young church-goer was in tremendous pain, and at the top of his lungs, every third word out of his mouth was "Jesus". After every Jesus was a F-Bomb.

I am sure that every professional athlete has cursed before and I am sure they all will do it again in the future. Bowlers are no different. I have a 4 year old son that has heard the F bomb a few times hell he has even said once. It is not right for him to hear or especially say it, however he is human just like any of us and he will hear and use that word a number of times in his life. I know I have heard my fair share and have used it plenty of times. I think the United States needs to realize that these words are here and most people will use them. Wake up and realize the fact that kids will hear this kind of language in movies, songs, and on television as well as just being out in public. Ever been to a mall with teenagers around or 20 year olds. Sometimes that is all you hear.

No swearing means no swearing.

Thank you.  My 4-year old watches the show with me, and I don't want him picking up that language from a PROFESSIONAL BOWLER.  He'll pick it up soon enough, but Sundays at 1:00 (Eastern) should be a time I shouldn't have to worry about that.

Everyone seems to be using this "they do it in other sports, but you're not outraged about that" excuse.

Umm...I don't think it should be going on in any sport. Unfortunately, this is not the NFL forums, so I don't get on here and comment on Shannahan dropping the F-bomb.

I think the FCC ought to fine anyone swearing on TV during a professional sporting event. It's unnecessary.

And regarding this thread... I don't know for sure he dropped the F-bomb but if he did he will get fined, again.  You commit the crime you pay the fine, it's the rules the PBA has set.  If some of you don't like it, too bad.  You're not part of the PBA so you can keep dropping all the four letter words you'd like.  Unfortunately for Rash, he IS part of a professional organization with rules.  If he doesn't choose to follow them he pays the consequences, pretty simple.

Sean said the word UNDER HIS BREATH as he was sitting down.  Most likely not a single person in the live audience heard it.  Unluckily for him, he was mic'd live and most of the viewing TV audience heard it.  This incident is hardly comparable to kicking ball returns, pounding telescores, and blatantly flipping the bird!

But still against the rules the PBA has set, correct?  He knows he is wearing a mic.  Point is he was wrong, no matter how you want to justify it.

I've got better and bigger things to worry about, the economy, my 401k, the next 4yrs, etc etc etc. Quit being so darn critical every time someone bowling on tv has a slip up. They are making a living doing what they love, you people need to realize that. Put yourself in their shoes, if you were that pressed to have to perform week in and out to make a living, you'd more than likely drop a few f bombs of your own when things didn't work out your way. If it's such a bother, either turn down the volume on your TV, or change the channel to NFL football, because god knows I've NEVER heard an NFL player cuss on national tv..... well, at least not today!

Pretty sure it slipped out. He wouldn't do it on purpose, probably just forgot he had a mic on and got caught up in the moment. TV lights and cameras and the crowd, most likely just slipped his mind while thinking about how he screwed himself over prison style.

That was obviously a slip out of frustration.  He made a bad choice about how to play the lanes on Sunday and I think his line choice messed up everyone that attempted to play in the rest of the day.  Bowler's are people who make mistakes just like the rest of us.  GET OVER IT !!!!!
