Regional Pro: How do you know if you're ready?
« on: April 19, 2005, 09:35:54 AM »
Hey everyone,

The question is as simple as that. How do you know if it's a good idea to join the tour or not? I've wanted to take the plunge for a long time, but I've always backed off and said that I need to sharpen up my game. Well, I still have my weaknesses, but I'm starting to feel like maybe it's just time to take the risk and see what happens. Obviously, I know that it won't be easy and that I'll take some lumps. But it seems to me that it's better to take a shot and try it than to sit on the sideline and wait until the magical day when everything falls into place. What do you guys and gals think? What does an aspiring regional pro need to know before jumping in? What advice would you give? I'm really interested to hear what you all have to say.

Thanks,

Gene J. Kanak

In the Midwest, if I had Pete Weber on one side and Steve Jaros on the other... maybe I could catch them between games???

Actually, while I can't find the rule, they're not allowed to sign autographs during competition, so you would have to wait until they are done bowling.

It's a lot like buying things - if you have to ask, you're not ready.................... that being said, I'm also on the "give it a shot and see what happens side" of things..............

I'm with Bass...definitely go bowl the Midwest regional, I'm planning on bowling the Lombard stop (and probably one other) and am VERY much looking forward to it.    Would be a lot of fun, especially if, like the others have suggested, you don't get star-struck (at least while bowling) and treat it like any other tournament (respectfully of course).

He's definitely right, the advantage Trendel, Blake, Carter, Nape, Rogers, Stenger, etc. have is just more experience bowling on those patterns.  Once you nail it down, you'll be all set, but DEFINITELY practice on tougher conditions (if you can find them...)
