Chameleon Pattern
« on: October 20, 2006, 06:00:29 AM »
I've bowled on all of the regional patterns, at least in as close a rendition as my home house is able to put out, but I've never bowled on any of the big Tour patterns, other than Viper. I know that there a lot of PBA pattern leagues out there these days, so I'm guessing some of you may have had more experience than I. The Hammond PTQ will feature Chameleon this year, and since I'm bowling it, I'm kind of interested to hear how others have tried to attack it. I read the description at pba.com, and I appreciate the fact that the patterns play very differently, depending upon the lane surface, etc, etc. I just want to get feedback as to where any of you have played while attacking this pattern. If you care to respond, I'm looking to find out which ball(s) you used, what drill patterns you had on them, what kind of game do you have (high rev, stroker, etc), what part of the lane did you attempt to play, where did you see others having success, etc. Any help you can offer will be appreciated.

I've only bowled 300, but I've benched 345

There is no right answer in dealing with the chameleon.  You could focus on one of three different lines at the breakpoint: 5, 10, and 15 board.  Pick one you're comfortable with, but be prepared to try the others in case that line isn't there when you switch lanes.  With everyone playing different lines, no two pairs will play identically.  If you can bowl Hammond, why not come out to Plaza Lanes in Highland on Wednesday nights?  We hold a sweeper every week at 9:30 using the PBA pattern that aired on the previous Sunday.  It's $20 entry, $5 side pot.  We bowl 2 games and cut the field in half two single elimination match play bracket.  We get anywhere from 40-60 bowlers every night, usually paying 8 spots.  Local PBA pro Eugene McCune bowls it a lot, but shouldn't be there now because the tour's starting up.  It really is good practice.  Hope to see you around.
