Forget Major Mika...
« on: April 02, 2005, 12:23:12 PM »
It's Major Allen now.  Patrick Allen advances to his third Major tournament finals this season.  That's called kicking butt and taking names.

Since I get to vote for POY, PA can count on this professional adding one to his column.

Is this a new 'lefty alliance'?

I think TJ should be POY...his massive revs on the Big Time hypnotize me and make me want him to be POY!

Uh.........no.  YOu could call him "major allen", if uh, he actually WON the others.  I think the thing behind Mika's nickname was that he actually WON them.

No offense, but using your logic of "shows" over wins, then that would be like saying the Buffalo Bills are the greatest football team to ever play, since they appeared in 4 straight superbowls (but didn't win any), while there are other teams that have actually won.  I know it means he was doing incredibly well, but there is a pretty big gap between first and everything else.

I hope I didn't come off as rude, but I'm just a narrow-minded fool who thinks wins are more important.  And I SWARE, it has nothing to do with the fact I don't like PA, and tommy is my favorite bowler, HONEST. hehe

lmao good analysis of one of the saddest stories in football history. I still feel bad for that guy that missed that field goal to win the super bowl (o wait, which one?).

From the pba players i've talked to though, they call winning on sunday a crap shoot, as the shot always plays different then it did the entire week and there aren't enough games that they bowl. This is probably one of the reasons pin-nut supports pa.

I just hope that PA doesn't win and place well next week, so we don't have to have some giant debate.  It'd be much easier if he just lost, and TOmmy won the ToC.

But, I cannot deny that PA has a great POY resume if he wins.  Not winning is what makes it iffy for me...

I am hoping PA does not win. I would like to see Voss take it. He is due for a major title. If Voss doessn't take it, I would like to see Scroggins win..

While spending a fair amount of time bowling in the Northeast I've had the opportunity to see PA bowl many times.  This is before many of you even knew he existed.  He Mike Lichstein, Brian B just to name a few made bowling NEBA's quite a competition.  PA was an extremely good bowler then, but through the years I have seen him make many improvements to his game.  Through this I can only hope that PA does well.  While he may not be my favorite bowler to watch on tour I wish him the best of luck in the POY race.

Anybody but Voss!!! He's really arogant. I'm tired of his act.

Anybody else think that maybe the reason why PA has 4 appearances and no wins is because he loses his focus when he gets in a TV setting? Every time that I have seen him bowl he is yelling at someone in the crowd for moving, talking on a cell phone, flash photos...or whatever.  Then he follows it up with a poor shot every time.  This is why he will not win a major, or player of the year this year.  You can say that Sunday is a crap shoot, but somebody seems to have Sunday figured out...somebody is bowling his best when it counts, he's undefeated this year on Sunday's, and his name is not Patrick Allen.

Hussman: Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but out of his 4 televison appearances this year, hasn't Patrick Allen been the only bowler to win back to back titles this season in Birmingham,Alabama and Dallas, Texas? And it does take effort to come in 2nd place in the two majors this season- he wasn't just a one game and out bowler...

I do think Tommy Jones to date has had the stronger season on television in terms of winning 4 tour titles. If Patrick wins today and can show up for the tournament of champions, I think it will be tough to decide who is the player of the year...

LMAO, here's some good info for you. my stepmother happens to know to this day some of the higher-ups in the Buffalo Bills Administation...

Scott Norwood missed the field goal you talked about.

3 hours after the superbowl, my stepmother called her friend to ask how everyone (after the loss of course) was doing. since she is a big time bills fan, she and i always fought over the Boys/Bills rivalry. well, she tells me while she's on the phone:

"Well, Don, they handed Norwood his packing papers about 30 minutes after he stepped off the field. the GM pretty much fired him as soon as he missed."

sure enough, they report later that evening that norwood was fired.

thats harsh!!

Thanks for the thread-hijacking, guys.  Much appreciated.

Back to the original topic, any doubts now about the title of Major Allen?  POY is now coming down to the T of C with PA leading the running, IMO.

This is gonna be interesting...To me, right now, whoever does best gets it.  If PA bombs out and tommy gets like 3rd or something, I'd go for him.  If PA shows well, I'd pick him.  Tough call, no clear cut winner.
