Look at these scores Voss shot the 1st 3 games. Barnes is in big trouble.

If you go back and watch in slow motion on the two big four splits, Voss got around the side of the ball too much which caused the ball to hook too much. If he releases those shots with less side turn as he did in the string he had, he strikes. I am talking less than 10 degrees of rotation and that is a very easy mistake to make even for a player the caliber of BV.

The reason he played that line, if he throws it straight (his "A" game) he strikes, if he doesn't he doesn't. I would imagine the hamstring injury didn't help him any and made him pull up and get around those two shots. I would imagine that Voss being the ultra competitive player he is would get frustrated more by the injury and the bad shot it caused than the way Chris was playing the lanes, but he chose to blame Chris blowing a hole in the pattern and lost his head. I'm not trying to make excuses for BV or justifying it in any way, just trying to put things in perspective.

Here is what will happen if they change the rules.

1. scores will go down on TV. Having proved by the PBA changing from the sport patterns of a few years ago to the more open scoring environment of today, that the ratings are higher if the scores are higher, I don't see them changing anything that would make the scores drop significantly.

2. Limiting the differential in bowling balls. Most pros use pin placements at 5"+ which in and of itself lowers the differential as it is. If they are forced to use lower dif balls, they would just use stronger pin placements to make up for it.

3. Limiting the grit of the ball. I agree with this one. They shouldn't be allowed to use balls that they have no intention of using on tv or competition, like an 80 grit ball. With that being said they can still burn a path to the pocket with 320 grit, it would just take a little longer, not much longer either.
