Full 08-09 season details now up
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:01:55 AM »
Figured I'd start a new thread for this since we now have the official information posted on the PBA's website

http://www.pba.com/news/feature.asp?ID=841

The mixed oil pattern tournaments, a "marathon" tournament, plastic ball tournament, house shot tournament, mixed doubles, and a televised senior event are all confirmed.  I actually think this season should be a lot of fun.  Really looking forward to it!

The schedule looks like it could be quite interesting with the 2 different patterns on the tv pair and the other formats. It's worth the look to view the schedule and the descriptions of the tounament formats.

Sounds like a fun season coming up.  I can't wait to head to the Masters and the Open again this year!

I can't wait for this season to get going.  The formats look awesome!!  The new events will be good viewing.  The womens events should even be interesting even though Kulick and Liz Johnson won't be involved.

The only thing I didn't like about the Plastic Ball Tournament was it says this "TQR competed on with standard equipment rules."

Coolest sentence I've seen yet:

Lane oil pattern: Newly designed pattern for this event, TBD

Obviously, you aren't a golfer.

Second coolest sentence thus far:

For match play and on TV, the left lane on the pair will be oiled with the Shark pattern the right lane, Cheetah.

From what i'm hearing, ebonite is making the plastic ball for the tournament, it will have no logos except one for the pba 50 or whatever. I'm just willing to guess they weren't thrilled to hand one of these (two actually) to everyone that is chasing the spot for it.

That makes sense really because depending on how many people show to bowl the TQR you double your cost.  Plus think about the amount these balls could be sold for in limited release.

I just found this kind of funny about the plastic ball tournament:

"The balls will stay in the bowling center throughout the event players picking them up to begin play each day."

They don't think professionals would alter the bowling balls to soften them up do they? lol

am i the only one who wishes the "new" pba would go back to using the "old" pba's tournament format ?

18 games of qualifying( three 6-game blocks )

the top 24 advance to matchplay( three 8-game blocks )

the top 5 advance to the championship round with the traditional stepladder format.

i'm glad i dropped my pba membership because it appears that this organazation is not heading in the right direction.

I would have like to have seen the plastic ball tournament on Shark

That would have made for a really fun event (to watch)

This is going to be a hell of an interesting year. I'm pretty excited about the changes they've made and think it will boost the ratings and attention towards professional bowling. Does anyone have any info about the new Earl and Dick Weber Shots?
