Full 08-09 season details now up
« on: August 05, 2008, 12:01:55 AM »
Figured I'd start a new thread for this since we now have the official information posted on the PBA's website

http://www.pba.com/news/feature.asp?ID=841

The mixed oil pattern tournaments, a "marathon" tournament, plastic ball tournament, house shot tournament, mixed doubles, and a televised senior event are all confirmed.  I actually think this season should be a lot of fun.  Really looking forward to it!

This may have been discussed earlier, but I didn't see it if it was.

How does this impact the PBA experience leagues?  Will mixed oil patterns, on different lanes, be used?  What pattern is used the weeks that multiple oil patterns are bowled on during the tournament?  Will the house shot pattern from that week be used?

There are other questions, but these are a few off the top of my head.

I wonder what the Earl pattern will be like.

My guess is, based on Earls record - the pattern will be wide open for the rightys, shut down for the left. Therefore, Earl wins.

Can someone explain to me logically why the "plastic ball tournament" does not count towards points? I think that is kind of dumb.

im not sure either... if it counts as a title and gives a berth in the TOC it should count for points.

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

what bothers me the most is that the pba is placing more emphasis on tournament variety and formats instead of going out and securing more and better corporate sponsorships.

How do you know that?

They make more money if they get better corporate sponsors. I'm sure they are not blowing them off.

They obviously are feeling that they need to find something to excite the public and sponsors.

The PBA and bowling for that matter, should decide what the "skill" of bowling should measure. Should it be the pattern, the rev rate, the balls or the accuracy or any other measurement. As long as it is all of these and any one of them can dominate the scoring pace bowling will continue to be a joke and the "world" will know it (both corporate sponcers and viewing community). A single superstar/spokes person is what this sport needs... like Roger Federer or Tiger Woods who is expected to win the vast majority of tournaments they enter. And until some specific skill can be mastered we will never get the respect this sport deserves.

Two things - someone's livelihood is going to be based on a gimmick?  Two, the over/under on number of exempt pros showing up for this is 22...wanna bet a ton take that stop off?

I would bet if it becomes an issue that there will be some push from the PBA to get the bowlers there.
