Two handed powerhouses of the US Open
« on: February 17, 2005, 04:05:49 AM »
Osku is 6th after 3 rounds in the C-Squad while Brian Valenta is 7th overall.  What does everyone think of the two handed release doing so well on a 1:1 shot where accuracy is a prime?

I've bowled along side Valenta in college tournaments and he is the real deal.  Probaly one of the best bowlers I've ever seen regardless of form.  This kid can do anything with a bowling ball, play the 1 board, hook it coast to coast, loft it 35 feet take two bounces then make a mean left turn to the whole, he can even throw a backup ball two handed.  Hopefully he'll make the show so you guys can take a look at the future of bowling.

It is ALOT more then rev-rate. I have had the pleasure of watching Valenta in 3 college events and he can play ANYWHERE PERIOD!!!! Plus he is a fantastic spare shooter. Hope to see him go far this week

i know someone made a comment on this somewhere before, but the extra hand on the ball helps to compensate for errant shots.  when you tug it in, the natural motion of the left hand changes the axis rotation of the ball, thus tightening the track and keeping it from snapping as much as it would have if the mark was hit.  when you miss outside, the left hand puts extra turn on the ball, which gives it more backend and gets it back to the pocket.  while it may look unconventional, it definitely has an advantage to it.  however, i dont see it as the future of bowling, and dont forget about the other 106 guys that will make it doing it the conventional way.  i would like to see at least one of them make it to sunday, and i will have the pleasure of watching them tomorrow in person, but i think the advantages of this release are amplified on this condition because of the margin of error.  an extra half inch either way could be the difference between 20th and 120th.

Osku has been doing quite well also. I heard he did real well in vegas a few weeks ago. I'd like to see him on the tube again.

osku was throwing a great ball today...valenta threw well today also, but i saw osku get into a few funks now and then and have to pull out decent scores with a late string.  i wouldnt be surprised in the least to see him back on the show this year, and if he manages to get somewhat locked in, he is very tough to beat.

Valenta is a 2 time Junior team usa member and is very good, if any of you were at Junior World Team Challenge last year you would have seen an insane clutch performance...the thing that helps him the most on a shot like the US open, is since he does loft it 35 feet, he lofts it straight over the oil, so his ball lands in his break point and right to the pocket, he doesnt have to worry about the ball skidding in that oil or rolling to early...He will be dominate on the PBA one day

Seeing Valena stand on the 10 board on the left lane, AND THEN lofting over the gutter cap to double in the 10th on the right lane in the JWTC last year was one of the most memorable things I have seen in my bowling career.

I think I know who made that comment about the extra hand!

Very smart fella!

Picture the advantage of the two hand backend in tennis without the problem of having limited reach.  Oh you like to play golf with two hands???  Why?  Everyone always looks prettier when swinging with one arm!

Well both Osku and Brian bowled exceptionally well this weekend, but unfotunately, they will not be among the top 5 on TV this weekend.

Woulda been interesting to see.

Haha, my mistake---

I thought the PBA was moving away from bowling on Saturdays, but obviously they maintained the original structure.

Viva Osku!
