Are all PBA pros currently using 16 pound balls?
« on: February 18, 2007, 10:04:42 AM »
Hi, I was wondering if all the male PBA players right now are using 16 pound balls.  If not, are there any that use 14 pounds? or is that too light to do well at a highly competitive level.  I was also wondering if the smaller/lighter players (Norm Duke, Pete Weber) also use 16 pound balls or are they using lighter.

I used 16 lbs for a long time.  I switched to 15lbs a couple of years ago and my average has gone higher than ever.  I have more control with 15 lbs.  For most balls, the RG and differential benefit the 15 lbs balls more.  I can also put more rev's on a 15 lbs ball than 16 lbs.  Also 16 lbs balls were known for being TOO strong and leaving 9 pins for right handers or 8 pins for left handers.  That is all I know.

The Vertigo hits so hard that pins on adjacent lanes sometimes fall - FACT.

according to rick benoit, brunswicks' ball rep on tour, appx. 70% of the touring pros use 15lb. equipment. there are a few who use 14lb. balls and the rest use 16lb. equipment, which is called, "man weight", on tour. there are more players that use 16lb. equipment then you think:  walter ray williams, jr., norm duke, chris barnes, parker bohn III, robert smith, etc.

He switched back last year as well because he felt like he was leaving to many 8-10's.

Mike's right, he went back to 16#, not back to 15#.  They mentioned it on the World Championship telecast last season.
