How come ESPN can do relatively well on assigning Nascar and most other sports and they can't figure out how to do bowling?
Have you heard Rusty Wallace in the commentary booth for NASCAR races?  He's absolutely DREADFULLY horrible.  ESPN sucks at picking commentators in general...

How good and funny was Ryan when he new???  he was even dumbier and less funny that by the end.

I did not understand why Duke was not brought back or god forbid give a job to Brian Voss who needs the work and is a pretty good.

Burton with Pedersen would also be a very good combo, maybe bring someone like Roth to ad charisma and be able to talk about the good ole days of bowling.

I think they should bring back the third mic.  That may ease the transition.

Brad Daughtery <sp?> ya know the ex-NC star in  college and NBA player.  They assigned him to Nascar.  You can tell this guy has been a Nascar fan for years and even though he's a b-ball star...he knows Nascar.  He was on ABC yesterday so he's part of the ESPN line-up.

On a side note: Brad was a co-owner of a Racing Team. I don't know what level, but I want to say it was Busch series, not sure.

That's your opinion which is fine.  Rusty ain't the greatest but he knows of what he speaks.  Needs to fix it up a bit.

BTW......I think you're an open wheel guy and Rusty probably doesn't know as much as he does Nascar but he's still better than a guy like Ryan or Stone doing a sport they know nothing about.

No, he doesn't know of what he speaks.  Just because he drove the cars doesn't mean he knows a lot about the sport or how to present it on television.  (He claimed people were getting "aero-loose" whenever someone spun at short tracks, even if that completely defied the laws of physics.  Huh???)  Check any NASCAR forum -- you're in the minority if you like him being in the booth all the time.  I spend most of the time watching a race disagreeing with almost everything he says...

Like, I said we are all entitled to our opinions it's what public forums are all about.  I respect yours.

My favorite open wheel guy is Robin Miller but I never see him making it to the booth says the way he sees it too much for the networks to give him a job. Kind of like The Masters shuts out Gary McCord.

I think I lost respect for Stone as a professional sports announcer when he asked Randy what a re-rack was.  I think a six year old might be able to figure that one out.
I think that was more Stone asking Pederson that to get him to explain why the pros would take a re-rack even though the pins looked fine.  Taking a re-rack to buy some time isn't the most obvious reason to the casual fans.  They have Stone there to ask the questions the casual fans won't know.  I'm sure the casual fans were confused when Pederson was going over the tracking data saying Jaros was laying it down at 17, going over 13 and out to the 5th board at the breakpoint.  I understand that perfectly, but does the vast majority of the rest of the audience?  No.  They have to look at things from both viewpoints and try to meet in the middle.  That's why they have a guy who knows little about bowling (Rob Stone) and a guy whose life is knowing the ins and outs of bowling (Randy Pederson).

Now, back to the slightly off-topic discussion from earlier...

Surprise, surprise.  I can't stand Robin Miller these days. A few years ago, his radio show was fun to listen to when he would talk about the "old days" with his buddies.  Now, he just continues to be a pompous jerk a lot of the time, and he can't get over the idea that the Indy 500 is more important than anything else in American open wheel racing.  I hate that so much.  Tony George made the Indy 500 not matter anymore, and it's never going to be as big a deal again ever.  Get over it, Robin.  There's a reason Champ Car fired him last year...

I never thought I would hear bring back Dave Ryan.  What a kooky world!  Let's give this guy a chance to settle in.  He seems to be more "exciting" than Ryan but the lack of terminology or knowledge is quite confusing.

tape the show..mute it..and play back a recording of yourself during the show.. be your own color commentator and play by play man...you'll be happier in the end..and no one will think you're crazy

Why couldn't they let Randy Pederson be the commentator? Don't think it would work? It worked for Mike Durbin. He used to do color with Denny then moved up.Then they could have Brian Voss or someone do color. I think Pederson would be perfect to take that step.
