Good Show
« on: January 17, 2010, 04:49:03 AM »
Good show today IMO I liked the low scoring pace, seeing that these guys are human after all, Felt terrible for Wolfe when he missed the 8 pin.

Sean Rash must be getting tips from Chris Barnes out their. But I wish I made as much money in a week as Sean did.

Congats Anthony For StormBowler83's sake I wont type the last name.

But Man I was kinda pulling for Mike Machuga to take it in the finals.

i hardly think brunswick has tried to force staffers or independents to use their "latest and greatest" on tv. do you remember the 1998 abc masters? parker bohn III shot 300 in the semi-finals but lost to mike aulby in the championship match. both players were brunswick staffers at that time. remember what ball aulby used in that match ? the brunswick black blitz( a urethane ball ).

PB III missed a 7 pin during that match.

while i admit it looked like a tough pattern to strike on, i cannot excuse the poor attempts made at spares. i dare say their lack of spare making prowess made them look like (queue up rob stone & party at scroggies) "HOUSE BOWLERS." while i realize the game and equipment has and keeps changing, seeing t.j., diaper rash, and several others throw a plastic spare ball 45 mph at a spare and then pray it hits it is really not impressive. am i say they are not talented bowlers, no. what i am saying is till they learn to make all their spares on tv they will not be repeat winners. it seems that much of this season so far isn't who bowls incredible on tv but who doesn't !@#$% up too many times. i have not found this war of attrition much to watch.

I believe LaCaze was throwing a Track ball in the semi final match.  Funny, his logo on his shirt changed along with the ball he was throwing in the finals.  LaCaze also did not miss a single pin spare.  Mind you, he left a 3-6-10 and chopped but this spare appears to be more challenging on tour.

Well, my personal conversations and experiences with Chuck Gardner say otherwise. I'm not saying I think the C-System 3.5 is a bad ball, because it's an excellent piece of equipment, but all to often the Big B forces their bowlers to use the latest and greatest on TV instead of something else that is still in their line that the staff has used all week. Gardner believes firmly that he can make any ball react like whatever they were using during the week.

It''s not that they make them use it however when you make a show there is a list in the paddock that has a list of equipment on it that if you use this ball or wear this shirt, wrist band, shoes have this towel on tv you get extra money. So when your suppose to be the best bowlers in the world you think hey let me drill this new ball up and change the surface and hopefully I can make it work like the old ball did all week and make some extra money. This is why you have to watch qualifing this will show you what they really used and how they got there. Heck I was crossing with someone who was Hammer sponsored and he was throwing a Storm and doing very good, well the old owner of Hammer walked into the bowling alley and he picked up his Hammer ball and started throwing it and he kept doing good, but I always have thought it was funny that he did that.

I was really pulling for Machuga, I really like his form, very wel balanced, and nice arm swing. He also seems like a really nice guy.

He only had 1 bad shot where he almost left that 4-10 split, but ever other was a great shot on a tough line, carry was the only factor. Ringin 10's are a tough cookie, but I feel if he keeps throwing like he has been he will get another soon.

DON'T TEMPT THE BOWLING GODS

Anthony went double 8 in the 10th and Mike needed a double and 9 to win, he got the first one but went ring 10 on the second shot.

Just another hack with too much equipment.

 Thank you so much.

What a way to lose a ringing 10 pin. ouch.

DON'T TEMPT THE BOWLING GODS

Machuga's first in the tenth tripped the 4 forward. Bill Oneil was watching on the side during the match and helping out La Caze in practice.  After the 4 tripped Oneil ran out of the place in disgust.. the stuff you don't see on TV is the best part of the show..
Rash talking to himself all through the first match was great too..

it''s interesting to note that the show lasted over the 1 1/2 time slot yet they bowled thru a commercial in the first match. please bring back the pro bowlers tour on abc-tv !

was that the only commercial during the matches.?? Havent had a chance to watch the tv show yet.. When I was there I heard machuga asing if they were just bowling through.. and I didn''t see any other stoppages during the matches..

so not sure why it still went over.

Commercials through the Semi's for men and also the final's for women.  No commercials for the men's final.  The lanes were difficult.  Not a lot of strikes thrown.  Only when they needed it.  LaCaze threw the ball incredibly well in the 9th and 10th of the finals.  Machuga did as well. Trip 4 was nice, then packs the next one and leaves a solid 10 to lose..

good show.......except for the attempts at spare making. inexcusable for players of that caliber.

The thing, charlest, is that I would agree with you if we were talking about a bunch of missed 3-6-9-10s, but what we've seen yacked this year has been a bunch of single pins missed while throwing straight plastic. You throw plastic straight at a single pin, lane conditions are completely irrelevant.

Lot of guys look like they're trying to throw TOO hard at those things.

Sat behind the pair for Rd of 16 and Rd of 8...Rash had about 3 C-system 3.5s on the rack. Used them the entire match against Belmo

I watched all 3 rounds of match play on Friday, and I saw 6 different players throwing a C-System. Probably the most-used ball I saw that day.

the big ragu, i saw rick benoit talking with mike machuga on the telecast. they were on the approach discussing something just before the title match. i've spoken with rick in the past at different tour stops. he told me he'll never force anyone to use a particular ball just for promotional sakes.

charlest i understand what you are saying. but, consider this if you would: yours truly has bowled pba regional tournaments in the past and completed the entire eight(8) game qualifying round without missing a spare of any type. not splits mind you. but spares. my skill level is not as high as the players on the telecast today. therefore, i expect them to make their spares. the ladies make their spares. the men should have.

Good to see that Greg Hoppe is "Holier than thou", quite possibly the smuggest post ever. So what you did not miss a spare in 8 games. Because 8 games is such a large sample size, seriously, get over yourself.
