Gu did the exact same thing. Broke down the pair to his liking, used a soft, wear release, ands let the ball do the work.

I disagree in the description of Gu having a soft hand and not hitting the ball at the bottom.  He hit it pretty hard and lifted...to me this is not a soft hand.  He got away with it because he was on the wrong side.  Try that on the right side and his ball reaction would not have been good.

Glad he won a title but with his technique as a non-lefty he is just another bowler.  I think that's what the exempt players were intimating or at least that's what I think they were thinking.

Voss & Duke are the ones with soft hands and can get the ball to tip up at the right spot not Gu IMO.

holy hell, he sprayed it everywhere? ya maybe he missed a few times. SO WHAT! Where does it say in the sport of bowling you must strike a certain way? there isnt one bowler in this world who can throw 1,000 shots and it the same mark 1,000 times.  the dude came out and performed very well. no, he didnt have the  perfect style or form but if he can make it work and strike. good for him. next time tommy jones goes through the face and carries the big 4 are we gonna see a post about how he "sprays it everywhere" and call him a hack? no. just because this is the first time seeing him doesnt make him a hack bowler for missing his mark a few times. give credit where it is due!

I'm just shocked that we've never had Koreans in the PBA finals, then have two fighting it out for the title!!

Also, (IMHO) you can't beat a lefty whos HOT going up the 5 board..no matter who he is..

I wonder if SK is going to make them national heros..

Today.........

Squirrel does get a nut on occassion.  I hand it to Gu, he got it done.  But I do not believe the "hacks" will beat out the "Elite" pro's in the long run.

Even if you are not a subscriber click on the free Scorpion Championship post game and you will see why O'Neill struggled with his talk with Jeff Ussery and Del Ballard.  You can see they don't have a solid game plan that Bill looked comfortable with.  Lots of questions in his mind the way I see it.

1000 abralon Theory and an Anarchy for Gu.

Ball reaction and match ups dominate on these shows and unless you have it you ain't going anywhere.

To those that think a softer hand and straighter outside would have worked all I will say is look at how many times Barnes has tried this on TV and failed.

I would not agree that Barnes has a soft hand. Never saw him use it.

Gu outperformed everyone. Plain and simple. All bowlers catch breaks, just like they get tapped. Kim showed that the right side of the lane was playable. The righties, other than Kim, had not a clue. It was quite amusing to watch this lefty "HACK" beat the breaks off of everyone else.

Gu made the rest of the field, except for Kim,  look like hacks, if the truth be told.

GREAT WIN GU!!!!

I think the poster who mentioned soft hand, is right about this guy.

Now, I may be wrong...somebody please correct me if I am wrong...but I could've sworn Mr.Stone mentioned something about the huge hand/wrist device that he wore...and then mentioned also that he had an unusual "finger grip" in the ball.

I believe he said that he didn't use the usual two fingers that most use...that he used the ring finger and pinky.....which is a very weak release, and is a release that I sometimes use as a righty to pick up ten pins.

And if that is the case....he would have to hit it hard at the bottom to secure proper turn at the break point. If somebody has taped the show, maybe they could let me know it that indeed was what I heard.

I believe that Gu had three fingers in the ball(middle, ring, and pinky) and that was why they were discussing it. Pederson said that the only other person he knew of on tour that had previously used this type of grip was Mark Williams.

Somebody tell me that's a soft hand.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqIiYElIfLo

Thunk on the lane.  Sheesh.  Just because he uses a pinky finger doesn't mean anything other than his wrist is weaker...may allow him to stay under it better and why he uses a wrist support I'd suppose.

I dont think calling Gu a hack is very fair, None of us made that cut or even had the balls to try and bowl the WSOB. If we were bowling we wouldn't have made it through the first round of qualifying.

Calling him a hack makes you sound pretty stupid. Lets remeber Norm Duke WRW and Brain Voss play pretty straight Similiar to Gu just on the right side not the left, and they still miss their marks. WE miss our marks so lets joke we are not that good.

He won he was better that day he had a great look, why doesnt he get the credit for being a good bowler? Oneil ran over everyone a few weeks ago and he got credit for it. I guess I am missing something, how is two guys accomplishing the same thing different?

Agreed. But what's in a name. Call him what you want. The guy outbowled all  of the "seasoned pros" by laps.

So, once again, is there any reason the righties couldn't of broken down the pair in the same fashion? Or was the show another case of bowlers getting locked in to how they are supposed to play the pattern instead of bowling on what was given?

I have to admit though, I do agree with the comment that if you are a righty and searching for a line, and a lefty has free friction around the 5 board, it is pretty much a given what's going to happen all things considered.
